Leave Without Pay for Personal Needs. a) Subject to operational requirements, the Employer may grant leave without pay for a period of up to one (1) year to an employee for personal needs, including parental and other family related reasons. b) Leave without pay in excess of three (3) months, granted under paragraph (a) shall be deducted from the calculation of "continuous employment" for the purpose of calculating severance pay and vacation leave for the employee involved. c) Leave without pay granted under this section may not be extended and may not be used in combination with maternity, parental or adoption leave. d) An employee who is granted leave under this clause must pay both the employee and the Employer's shares of the benefit plans outlined under Article 24 of this Agreement in effect at the time of signing.
