MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. The following procedures will be used to implement the mentor teacher program: The mentor teacher program shall be totally voluntary. The District shall not request or require any employee to apply for participation. Selected mentor teachers and beginning teachers shall receive a stipend on a supplemental contract for the amount recommended by the state guidelines for the Beginning Education Support Team (BEST) Program in accordance with Washington Administrative Code. Mentor and beginning teachers shall be provided release time with substitutes, travel and meals to be reimbursed through the BEST grant as provided in accordance with Washington Administrative Code. Also the beginning teachers shall receive the state allocated funding. At the end of the school year, any unspent funds from the BEST grant for each mentor and beginning teacher will be split between them and added to their stipends. No participating employee shall be subject to any additional evaluation procedure not outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement. A mentor teacher shall not in any way participate in, or contribute to, the performance evaluation of a beginning teacher. Other grant sources may also be used for mentor teacher stipends following the guidelines of the specific grant. The process for stipends will follow the guidelines of the specific grant. The process for the mentor selection shall be jointly agreed upon by the building principal and the NAT executive board or their designees.
