Merchant Authorization Holds Sample Clauses

Merchant Authorization Holds. When you use your Card to pay for goods or services, certain merchants (such as restaurants and hotels) may ask us to authorize the transaction in advance and may estimate its final value up to twenty percent (20%) more to cover any tip or gratuity that you may add to the purchase. If you use your Card at an automated fuel dispenser (“pay at the pump”), the merchant may preauthorize the transaction amount up to $150.00 or more. If the transaction is not approved, you will need to go inside to pay the cashier prior to pumping. When we preauthorize a transaction, we commit to make the requested funds available when the transaction finally settles and may place a temporary hold on your Card’s funds for the amount indicated by the merchant (which may be more than the final settled transaction amount). We also may add an amount for certain merchants to ensure that sufficient funds will be available to cover the final transaction. Transactions at certain merchants that authorize high dollar amounts, especially rental car companies and hotels, may cause an “authorization” or “hold” on your available balance for up to thirty (30) days. Until the transaction finally settles or we determine that it is unlikely to be processed, the funds subject to the hold will not be available to you for other purposes. We will only charge your Card for the correct amount of the final transaction, however, and will release the hold on any excess amount when the transaction finally settles.

If this occurs and your total xxxx, after adding in the additional 20% (or more), exceeds the amount available on the Card, your transactions may be declined. Accordingly, you should ensure that the Card has an available balance that is 20% (or more) greater than your total xxxx prior to using the Card for these types of purchases. You may not use your Card at an automated (“pay at the pump”) fuel dispenser. Payments must be made inside. You will need to go inside to pay the cashier prior to pumping. We will only charge your Card Account for the correct amount of the final transaction, however, and will release the hold on any excess amount when the transaction finally settles. Negative Balance. Because you may be assessed transaction fees even if a transaction is declined, it is possible for a rejected transaction to cause your Card Account to have a negative balance and be overdrawn. We do not extend credit, so if your Card Account becomes overdrawn, you agree to pay us the overdrawn amount immediately, without further demand. We may deduct the overdraft amount from any current or future funds on this or any other Card Account you activate or maintain. If your Card Account has a zero or negative balance, we may, at our option, cancel your Card Account without notice.
Merchant Authorization Holds. If you use your Card at a restaurant, a hotel, or other merchant where the total purchase price may not be known at the time of purchase, the merchant may pre-authorize the transaction amount for an amount that exceeds the purchase amount to ensure there are sufficient funds available to cover tips, incidental expenses, or other applicable amounts. Any preauthorization amount will place a “hold” on your available funds on the Card until the merchant sends us the final payment amount of your purchase. Following receipt of the final payment amount, the preauthorization amount on hold will be removed, but it may take up to thirty (30) days for the hold to be removed. During the hold period, you will not have access to funds in your Card Account for the pre-authorized amount.

Merchant Authorization Holds. For debit card transactions involving merchant authorization holds, because there may be a longer delay between an authorization hold being applied and the transaction posting, this can sometimes result in a NSF fee based on an insufficient available balance at the time of a transaction posting, even if the available balance was sufficient earlier at the time of the authorization hold being applied. It is important to keep in mind that for debit card transactions, we check your available balance at two separate times – first at the time a merchant authorization request is received, and second, when the transaction settles and posts to your account. If your available balance is insufficient to pay the pre-authorization amount requested by a merchant, we will decline the request. If your available balance is sufficient to cover a merchant’s authorization request, the authorization request will be approved, and an authorization hold will be placed on your account in the amount of the merchant’s authorization request. If the transaction later settles and posts to your account when the merchant or merchant’s financial institution requests payment at a time when the available balance is insufficient to pay the posted transaction without causing an overdraft (i.e., paying the posted transaction results in an available balance of less than $0), we will charge a NSF fee on that transaction even though the available balance was sufficient to cover it at the time the transaction was authorized. The following example illustrates how this works: Assume your actual and available balance are both $40, and you use your debit card at a restaurant for $30. If the restaurant requests preauthorization in the amount of $30, an authorization hold is placed on $30 in your account, so your available balance is only $10. Your actual balance would remain $40. Before the restaurant charge is sent to us for payment, a check that you wrote for $40 clears or is settled or posted. Because your available balance is only $10 (due to the authorization hold of $30), your account will be overdrawn by $30, even though your actual balance is $40. In this example, if we pay the $40 check under our discretionary courtesy pay program, we will charge you a Courtesy Pay fee according to our fee schedule, which will be deducted from your account, further increasing the overdrawn amount. In addition, when the restaurant charge is finally submitted to us for payment, we will release the authorization ...

  • Authorization Holds You do not have the right to stop payment on any purchase transaction originated by use of your Mobile Wallet, other than transactions withing the Mobile Wallet Marketplace that display a cancel transaction button. When you use your Mobile Wallet to pay for goods or services, certain merchants may ask us to authorize the transaction in advance and the merchant may estimate its final value. When you use your Mobile Wallet to obtain cash at an ATM or from a bank teller, we will authorize the transaction in advance (including all applicable fees). When we authorize a purchase transaction, we commit to make the requested funds available when the transaction finally settles, and the Bank will place a temporary hold on your Mobile Wallet’s funds for the amount indicated by the merchant. If you authorize a transaction and then fail to make a purchase of that item as planned, the approval may result in a hold for that amount of funds. Car rentals, hotels and other service-oriented merchants may choose to factor in additional amounts upon check-in, and it may take up to sixty (60) days after your stay or your rental to have any excess amounts held by the hotel or rental company added back to your available balance. Similarly, some gas stations may factor in additional amounts to cover potential filling of the tank; if you want to avoid such a hold, you may want to pay inside the gas station, instead of paying at the pump. Until the transaction finally settles, the funds subject to the hold will not be available to you for other purposes. We will only charge your Mobile Wallet for the correct amount of the final transaction, and we will release any excess amount when the transaction finally settles. When you use your Mobile Wallet at certain restaurants and service-oriented merchants, there may be an additional 20% (or more) added to the authorization to cover any tip you may leave on the purchase. If this occurs, and your total bill, after adding in the additional 20% (or more), exceeds the amount available on your Mobile Wallet, your transactions may be declined. Accordingly, you should ensure that your Mobile Wallet has an available balance that is 20% (or more) greater than your total bill before using your Mobile Wallet.
