Needs Improvement Rating. Within thirty (30) school days of a teacher receiving an evaluation rating of “needs improvement,” the evaluator and teacher shall develop a Professional Development Plan (PDP). The PDP must explicitly address areas of performance that the tenured teacher needs to improve and must take into account the teacher’s ongoing professional responsibilities. The tenured teacher must be evaluated once in the school year following the “needs improvement” rating. If the subsequent evaluation received is equal to or better than “proficient”, then the teacher must be reinstated to the regular evaluation cycle.

When a teacher is rated Needs Improvement, within 30 school days, the evaluator in consultation with the teacher shall develop a Professional Development Plan (available on the District 62 Intranet). The plan must include the areas that need improvement and the supports provided by the District to address areas identified as needing improvement. b. A teacher who receives a rating of Needs Improvement must be evaluated the subsequent year.
Needs Improvement Rating. All tenured teachers who receive a rating of “Needs Improvement” shall be required to complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP). The PDP must be developed within thirty (30) school days after receiving a Summative Rating of “needs improvement”. A PDP is developed by the Evaluator in consultation with the Teacher and takes into account the Teacher’s ongoing professional responsibilities including his/her regular assignments. The PDP will be directed to the areas that need improvement, and will include a description of the types of evidence that will be accepted to show progress/achievement of a goal as well as supports that the district will provide to address the performance areas needing improvement. The teacher and Evaluator will have ongoing conversations based upon evidence gathered by both Teacher and Evaluator (e.g., Data Logs, reflection forms, lesson planning, student work, formal and informal observations). A minimum of three (3) observations shall be required for the PDP period, of which two (2) must be formal observations. Formal observations include both a pre- and-post observation conference. The teacher will receive a Summative Evaluation at the end of the PDP period. Evaluators will identify strengths and weaknesses based upon formative feedback, planning and reflecting conversations, as well as attendance and subject competency when determining a Summative Evaluation Rating, The PDP period does not have a minimum or maximum timeframe. If the Teacher has corrected the performance areas and receives a rating of “proficient” or “excellent”, he or she is returned to the regular evaluation cycle (PERA 2010.)
