Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT. A ride, or reimbursement for a ride, provided so that an enrollee with no other transportation resources can receive services from an entity providing MCO covered services. NEMT does not include transportation provided on an emergency basis, such as trips to the ED in life threatening situations.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT. Program or Rhode Island NEMT Program is the transportation program established to provide cost- effective NEMT services for individuals eligible for medical assistance under the Medicaid State Plan and need access to health care services and have no other teams of transportation. The Program is inclusive of the Elderly Transportation Program (ETP) and monthly bus pass distribution for the TANF (“RI Works”) program.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT. The DO shall provide the most cost-effective and least expensive mode of transportation to its Members. However, the DO shall ensure that a Member’s lack of personal transportation is not a barrier of accessing care. The DO shall ensure that its Members utilize a Family and Friends Mileage Reimbursement Program if they have a car, or a friend or family member with a car, who can drive them to their Medically Necessary service.
