Nurses Who Are Willing To Work In Another Department. Nurses who work in hospital departments that are closed on holidays may choose to notify their Directors of their desire to be available for work in departments that are open on holidays. The nurse will be able to specify department(s) in which he/she is qualified to work (i.e., having the skills and competencies that are required for those departments). If patient census is such that low census must be given, then it will be administered in accordance with Section 6.10, Low Census Days. Section 9.8.2.1 will apply if the hospital determines the nurse is not qualified. The nurse will notify his/her manager prior to the schedule request off date pursuant to Section 5.8. Nurses notifying their Director that they are available to work in other departments on holidays must have the skills and competencies that are required for those departments.
