Common use of Paid Family Leave Clause in Contracts

Paid Family Leave. Paid Family and Medical Leave is a statewide insurance program that provides eligible employees with paid time off to give or receive care. To qualify for Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave (WPFML) employees must have worked 820 hours or more in the qualifying period. Employees are responsible for filing claims with the Employment Security Department (ESD) and payments will come directly from them. Qualified employees can access up to 12 weeks, as needed, for birth or placement of a child, serious illness or injury of the employee or family member, and military leave. When possible, the employee must notify the District of their intent to apply for WPFML 30 days prior to the leave start date. If the leave was not foreseeable, this notification must be made as soon as possible. Accrued District sick leave can be used during the "wait week" but employees cannot use both WPFML leave and District leave at the same time.
