Shared Leave. The purpose of the leave sharing program is to permit state employees, at no significantly increased cost to the State, of providing leave to come to the aid of another state employee who has been called to service in the uniformed services, who is responding to a state of emergency anywhere within the United States declared by the federal or state government, who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, or who is suffering from or has a relative or household member suffering from an extraordinary or severe illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition, which has caused or is likely to cause the employee to take leave without pay or terminate his or her employment. For purposes of the leave sharing program, the following definitions apply:

Shared Leave. Any portion of a personal holiday that remains will be taken by the employee in one (1) absence, not to exceed the work shift on the day of the absence, subject to the request and approval as described in Subsections B, C and D above.

Shared Leave. 23.1 The purpose of this article is to inform employees of the basic provision of the leave-sharing program established by RCW 41.04.650- 41.04-670, as now or hereafter amended. In the event that there is any question as to leave sharing eligibility, entitlement or definition of terms, the language of the Revised Code of Washington is definitive. The leave sharing program permits eligible state employees to donate a portion of their paid leave to financially aid other state employees who will need to take leave without pay or separate from employment because of: • Having a severe or extraordinary illness; or • Having caregiver responsibilities for a relative or household member with a severe or extraordinary illness; or, • The employee is serving as an approved emergency worker; or, • When voluntarily or involuntarily serving in one of the uniformed services; of the United States, or, • Being a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, or assisting a family member who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking; or, • Sickness or temporary disability due to a pregnancy-related medical condition or miscarriage; or • Taking parental leave to bond with and care for their newborn, adoptive or xxxxxx child, for a period of up to sixteen (16) weeks after birth or placement.
Shared Leave. Employees may participate in the University’s shared leave program in accordance with state law and University policy as set forth in the Administrative Policy Statements 45.10.

Shared Leave. Employees shall be permitted to transfer a portion of their accrued vacation leave and/or sick leave to the account of another employee who is suffering from serious injury and/or illness in accordance with WAC 000-000-000 through 104. Should the Legislature or the Superintendent of Public Instruction modify or eliminate this benefit, such modification or elimination shall apply to this Agreement.
Shared Leave. 31.1 Availability of Shared Leave. As permitted by RCW 41.04.650 - 41.04.670 and by this Article, employees may donate accrued vacation leave, sick leave or personal holidays to other state employees who have exhausted or are about to exhaust their own paid leave, and who have been called to military service; suffer from an extraordinary or severe injury, illness or impairment; or who have a relative or household member who is suffering from an extraordinary or severe illness, injury, or impairment; who have volunteered and been accepted into emergency volunteer service in response to a declaration of a state of emergency within the United States; or is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking; needs time to bond and care for a newborn child after birth or to bond and care for a child after placement for adoption or xxxxxx care; is sick or temporarily disabled because of a pregnancy-related medical condition or miscarriage. For purposes of this article, the term relative includes the employee’s spouse, registered domestic partner, sibling, child, stepchild, grandparent or parent; the term household member means persons residing in the employee’s home who share reciprocal duties of care and financial support with the employee. The donation and use of Shared Leave will be governed by the latest iteration of the RCW and administered by the University’s Shared Leave Policy, EWU 403-02.
