Paternity. This covers absence from duty of a teacher during a school year of up to, but not exceeding two school days for the birth of a child of a spouse (including common law and same sex partners) in order to accompany the spouse during the birth. Should the teacher request compassionate leave in accordance with 9.1.1.1 at the time of the birth of the child, the total days of compassionate leave for parental and illness in the immediate family will not be greater than five.
