Payments of Union Representation. The City agrees that all employees in the bargaining unit shall either be members in good standing of the Union or pay an amount equal to the amount of union dues, fees, and assessments to the Union. This provision shall be a condition of employment and no employee shall be retained by the City unless the employee either becomes a member of the Union, or pays an amount equal to the union dues, fees, and assessments as specified above. This section is in no way intended to alter the basic probationary period of one (1) year used by the department.
