Common use of Personal Unpaid Leaves of Absence Clause in Contracts

Personal Unpaid Leaves of Absence. An unpaid leave of absence may be granted by the University for a period of time not to exceed six (6) months for personal reasons at the discretion of the Director of Communications and Security Technology Division or designee. All leaves of absence must be applied for, and granted, in writing. The specific reason for a personal leave should be included in the written leave request as well as the date of return to work. Available vacation time shall be used prior to the approval of a personal leave. If it is found that a leave of absence is not actually being used for the purpose for which it was granted, the University may cancel the leave and direct the member to return to work and the Bargaining Unit member may be subject to disciplinary action or dismissal.
