POLITICAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITY Sample Clauses

POLITICAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITY. The Trust encourages Employees to take part in community activities. However, it is important to bear in mind that such service may, at times, place the Employee in a real or perceived conflict of interest situation. As a member of a community or other external organization, an Employee must continually assess his or her involvement and expected decision-making responsibilities in light of the Employee’s employment with the Trust. To ensure the existence and appearance of objectivity, Employees should abstain from involvement in decisions that would create, or be seen to create, a conflict of interest. An Employee must notify the Trust management of any such potential or actual conflict of interest situations. Employees engaged in political activities must take care to separate those personal activities from their Trust duties. Employees may participate in political activities at the federal, provincial, regional and municipal levels, provided that such activities do not take place during work hours and do not use Trust assets, resources or property. Employees must not display or distribute notices, posters or similar material in support of a particular candidate or political party on Trust work sites or on Trust property. Employees who wish to run for federal, provincial, regional or municipal office must request approval (not to be unreasonably withheld) from the President and CEO before engaging in such activity. Such employee may be required to take a leave of absence without pay or undertake other actions as a condition of the approval to run for office and, in any event, must abide by all related laws, regulations and government guidelines governing such elections. Employees are prohibited from making any donation or contribution on behalf of the Trust, either directly or indirectly, to any political party, including by purchasing tickets to attend events at which all or a portion of the cost of attendance is treated as a donation or contribution. While Employees may give personal donations or make personal contributions to political parties of their choosing, such donations and contributions cannot be claimed as expenses and will not be reimbursed by the Trust.
