B. Once an applicant has been chosen to fill the vacancy, the newly hired unit member will be placed on the appropriate advertised salary scale, for the position while the vacancy was posted and in accordance to with the following procedures:

2. The newly hired unit member will be given credit through salary level placement for previous experience and education pertaining to position in which they are hired.
C. Unit members may be appointed to fill temporary vacancies upon approval of the Superintendent or his or her designee. Such appointments may be made when the following conditions are met:
1. Prior to the employee beginning the temporary assignment, a request for a temporary appointment is made in writing by the appropriate Assistant/Deputy Superintendent Chief and submitted to the Office of Human Resources.
2. The vacancy is projected for an extended period of time, but not less than ten (10) consecutive workdays.
3. A request for filling the vacant position has been approved by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee.
4. An appointee must meet or exceed the minimum qualifications for the position to which he or she is being temporarily appointed.
5. Appointees to higher-level positions shall be compensated by one (1) grade increase or more as determined by the Office of Human Resources. If a unit member should require more than a one-grade increase, explanation must be provided in writing at the time of the request for when the appointment is submitted. This compensation will be retroactive to the first day of the temporary appointment. In no case shall the appointee be compensated less than his or her current salary during the term of the appointment.
