Power Supply and Distribution. The C&I power supply distribution is essential to the reliable operation of the overall C&I system. The reliability criterion of the power supply distribution shall be equal to that of the control system. This can be achieved by applying redundancy and functional distribution in the design. The power supply distribution design criterion is based primarily on the following requirements: • The power supply distribution to the C&I system shall be supplied from two independent sources with no common mode failure risk in order to support full redundancy e.g. supply A from board A and supply B from board B. • No single failure in the power supplies shall result in the loss of total functionality in the ashing system and hence a multiple unit trip. • Functional distribution should be maintained between power supplies so that any one failure will not cause a stopping of the ashing process.
