Prior to Duty Hours. The lawful use or possession of medication or controlled substances prescribed by a licensed physician or the use of and possession of a non-prescription medication is not prohibited, but an employee whose job performance may be affected by such use must advise his/her Lieutenant prior to duty hours. Examples of impaired performance are listed under the definition of Reasonable Suspicion. Failure to advise the Lieutenant may result in discipline for poor performance or misconduct.

The District will provide contact information to each employee to use in the event that the employee’s immediate supervisor is unavailable. The District-designated alternative supervisor will perform the role of the employee’s immediate supervisor under this policy. Examples of impaired performance are listed under the definition of Reasonable Suspicion. Failure to advise the supervisor or secondary contact may result in discipline.
