Qualifications and Time Limit. A leave of absence may be granted for a period of up to two (2) years with the approval of the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education. Staff members may qualify for a leave of absence after serving a minimum of five consecutive years in the North Shore Schools. Extensions beyond a two-year period may also be approved. Except for child-care leave under section E of this Article, the teacher shall file a written notice of intent with the Superintendent of Schools by October 15th if the leave is for the following spring semester and by March 1st if the leave is to commence the following July 1st. Such time limits may be waived in the sole discretion of the Superintendent. A written reply to a request for leave of absence under this provision will be sent to the applicant not later than thirty (30) days after the application is filed. Hardship cases will be considered on an individual basis.
