Reasons to Use Sick Leave. Sick leave is available when an employee is ill or injured to the extent of being unable to work. Sick leave may be taken for absences made necessary for medical appointments or by reason of illness, injury, or disability, including temporary illnesses caused by or contributed to by pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, childbirth, and recovery there from, by exposure to contagious disease which may endanger the employee or public health, or by illness in the immediate family making it necessary that the employee be absent from his or her duties. The term "immediate family" as used in this section will be defined to include the spouse, parents, grandparents, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, legal wards, brothers, and sisters, or persons bearing the same relationship to the employee’s spouse. Sick leave is not intended as any earned time off with pay, and will not be granted as such.

  • Entitlement to Other Sick Leave Each employee in the bargaining unit shall once a year be credited with a total of 100 days sick leave in addition to the sick leave provided under Section 13.4.1 of this Article. Each day of sick leave provided by this Section shall be compensated at the rate of fifty (50) percent of the employee’s regular salary. The paid sick leave provided for under this Section shall be in addition to any other paid leave provided for in this Article and shall be used after the exhaustion of the leaves provided in Sections 13.4. The leave in this Section shall not be accumulative.

  • Paid Sick Leave Employees shall earn and be granted paid sick leave according to the following provisions:

  • Annual Paid Sick Leave Eighteen (18) days sick leave per year shall be earned by all full-time employees at the rate of one and one-half days for every month or part thereof that an employee is employed in such year provided that no sick leave shall be earned in any calendar month during which the employee is employed for less than ten (10) days.

  • Accrual of Sick Leave a. A full-time employee shall accrue four (4) hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period, or the number of hours that are directly proportionate to the number of days worked during less than a full-pay period, without limitation as to the total number of hours that may be accrued.

  • Family Sick Leave An employee may use Family Sick Leave for the illness of a member of the employee's immediate family who requires the care and assistance of the employee. Up to eighty (80) hours per calendar year of the employee’s accumulated unused sick leave may be used for this purpose.

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.
