Regional Significance. Several independent processes have identified the area proposed for the TBCA as ecologically significant within the WIO region, recognising that it is an area that is special within the region, and should be considered as one continuous seascape, rather than managed as if it were made up of independent small ecosystems. The Convention on Biological Diversity EBSA process The Convention for Biological Diversity (CBD) has initiated a global process of identifying Ecologically and Biologically Significant Areas (EBSAs) in various bio-regions of the world. In paragraph 36 of decision X/29, the Conference of the Parties to CBD (COP 10) requested the Executive Secretary to work with Parties and other Governments as well as competent organizations and regional initiatives, to organize, including the setting of terms of reference, a series of regional workshops, with a primary objective to facilitate the description of EBSAs through the application of scientific criteria in annex I of decision IX/20. A workshop was subsequently convened in Mauritius from 31 July to 3 August 2012. Regional Significance. The Rail Trail will complete the first trail connection between Salt Lake and Utah counties on the east side of I-15. This trail is regional in nature and completes a gap that would provide a 35 mile continuous trail connection from Xxxxx to Provo. Regional and high priority trails should be designed in a way to accommodate users of all abilities and comfort levels. When a regional trail must cross major roadways at grade, the perceived comfort and safety of the trail is diminished, and can deflect potential users. The Rail Trail currently has a grade separated crossing over Adobe Way and two approved and funded grade separated crossings at Traverse Mountain Boulevard and Flight Park Road. The addition of the proposed grade separated crossing would complete this section of the Rail Trail as a completely grade separated facility from SR-92 up to the Salt Lake County border. This trail design would create a safe and comfortable facility for users of all comfort and ability levels.
Regional Significance. The Ocean Reef Boat Harbour is a popular regional area, providing supplementary boat launching facilities in the northwest corridor to Hillarys Marina and Mindarie Boat Harbour.
Regional Significance. The Joondalup Art Gallery provides residents with a public art gallery facility as well as workshops and exhibitions by local artists.
