Common use of School Year Clause in Contracts

School Year. (a) The work year of all teachers covered by this Agreement shall commence no earlier than the Tuesday after Labor Day, unless mutually agreed upon by the Board and the Federation, and shall terminate no later than June 30 annually if possible under State Law. During such period there shall be scheduled no more than one hundred eighty-two (182) regular teaching days where pupil attendance is required. Similarly, during such period, teachers shall be required to report one day prior to the pupils' first school day and shall be required to be in attendance one day after the last scheduled day for pupil attendance but in no event be more than one hundred eighty-six (186) scheduled work days during such period. Teachers who were not employed by the Board during the previous school year may, for orientation and briefing purposes, be required to report four (4) days prior to the date upon which all other teachers are required to report. However, notwithstanding the foregoing, the Board may schedule two non-teaching work days contiguous to the beginning or end of the work year, provided the total length of the work year, including these two days, shall not exceed the overall one hundred eighty-six (186) workday limit. (d) Notwithstanding these provisions the Board reserves its statutory rights to change the length and scheduling of the student school day (except for the length and the scheduling of teacher lunch periods and teacher preparation periods), the length and scheduling of the student school year, and the length and number of parent-teacher conferences. The length and scheduling of the school year will not be changed without prior notification to the Federation and opportunity to negotiate the impact of any such change.

School Year. (a) 1. The last day of the first and third quarters shall be one-half (½) day for professional development (3.5 hours) and one-half (½) day for teacher work. c. The last day of each semester shall be one-half (½) teacher work days during such periodday and one- half (½) unassigned day. d. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving shall be release time in exchange for the two (2) parent teacher conferences. 2. Teachers who were not employed by new to the Board during district are required to attend a two-day new teacher orientation. 3. There shall be one (1) student early release day on the previous last student day of the school calendar for teacher work. 4. Students enrolled in the Developmental Preschool Program shall have a delayed start to the school year may, for orientation the first three (3) regularly scheduled student days and briefing purposes, shall be required to report released early from attending the last four (4) regularly scheduled student days. 5. There shall be a Teaching and Learning Committee at each building that is comprised of teachers and at least one (1) administrator. Additionally, there shall be a District Teaching and Learning Committee comprised equally of administrators and teachers. One (1) person from each Building Teaching and Learning Committee shall serve on the District Teaching and Learning Committee. 6. In the event that calamity days prior are to be made up if the amount used in a school year is in excess of five (5), a committee will be formed consisting of one representative from the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Education Association, one representative from the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Organization of Support Staff, one administrator, and one community member. The committee will make a recommendation to the date upon which all other Board as to when the days should be made up. Calamity make up days will be reflected on the District’s calendar. In the event of a delayed start due to District-wide or building calamity, teachers are required will be expected to reportreport to work at their normal schedule unless directed otherwise. Teachers shall be discussed with the Federation prior to June 1 annually and published. (d) Notwithstanding these provisions the Board reserves its statutory rights to change the length and scheduling of the student school day (except for the length and the scheduling of teacher lunch periods and teacher preparation periods), the length and scheduling of the student school year, and the length and number of parent-teacher conferences. The length and scheduling of the school year will not be changed without prior notification to the Federation and opportunity to negotiate the impact of any such changereprimanded if adverse weather conditions prevent them from reporting at this regularly scheduled time on days where there is a delayed start for students.

School Year. A. The school year for teaching staff members shall be one-hundred eighty-three (a183) days. B.1 The school year for Child Study Team members and the High School Guidance Counselors shall be 183 days. In addition, the LDTC’s may work year up to a combined 20 additional days. Five of all teachers covered those days will be scheduled by this Agreement shall commence no earlier than the Tuesday after Labor Day, unless Director of Special Services. The remaining fifteen days will be mutually agreed upon by the Board LDTC’s and the FederationDirector. Similarly, during such period, teachers shall be required to report one day prior to the pupils' first school day and shall be required If dates are not able to be agreed to, the Superintendent will decide these dates. The Social Worker(s) may work up to a combined ten additional days. Five of these days will be scheduled by the Director of Special Services. The remaining five days will be mutually agreed upon by the Social Worker(s) and the Director. If dates are not able to be agreed to, the Superintendent will decide these dates. The Director shall consider the nature of the work to be done and staff needs when determining the members of the team that will work the additional days. At the time of annual reviews Special Education Teachers will receive time to complete relevant IEP sections. The High School Guidance Counselors may each work an additional 25 days. The days to be worked will be mutually agreed upon by the High School Guidance Counselors and the High School Principal. If dates are not able to be agreed to, the Superintendent will decide these dates. B.2 Payment of above days will only be made if individual is in attendance one day after in the last scheduled day for pupil attendance but in no event be more than one hundred eighty-six (186) scheduled work days during such period. Teachers district. B.3 Child Study Team personnel and high school guidance counselor who were not employed by the Board during the previous school year may, for orientation and briefing purposes, be required to report four (4) days prior to the date upon which all other teachers are required to reportwork additional days (as outlined above) shall be compensated at the rate of 1/183 of their annual salary (BA+ educational bonus+ longevity) for each day worked. C. Due to the unique nature of the responsibilities of the High School Athletic Trainer, he/she will work for 1,396.9 hours from July 1 through June 30 (calculated at 183 days x 7 hours and 38 minutes). By March 15 of the student school day (except for the length and the scheduling of teacher lunch periods and teacher preparation periods), the length and scheduling of the student each school year, and an Association committee shall make recommendations to the length and number of parent-teacher conferences. Similarly, during such period, teachers shall be required to report one day prior to the pupils' first school day and shall be required to be in attendance one day after the last scheduled day for pupil attendance but in no event be more than one hundred eighty-six (186) scheduled work days during such period. Teachers who were not employed by the Board during the previous school year may, for orientation and briefing purposes, be required to report of instruction of which four (4) days prior would be designated for emergency which if used would not be made up by the students or staff. Employees agree to attend either two (2) open houses or two (2) evening parent teacher conferences, or a combination of one (1) evening open house and one (1) evening parent teacher conference to be scheduled in advance at the date upon which all other teachers are required to report. However, notwithstanding the foregoing, the Board may schedule two non-teaching work days contiguous to the beginning or end discretion of the work year, provided the total length of the work year, including these two days, shall not exceed the overall one hundred eighty-six (186) workday limit. (b) The following days School principal. Such event shall not be scheduled school days: for more than two and one-half (12 ½ ) Xxxx Xxxxxxxx (one day) hours and shall end no later than 7:30 PM local time for parent teacher conferences or no later than 9:00 PM local time for open houses. The Employee may be excused by the School Principal. Newly hired Employees agree to attend two (2) Yom Kippur orientation days prior to the start of the school year. There shall be a scheduled full day at the end of the second (32nd) Indigenous Peoples’ Day marking period to allow Employees time to finalize quarter grades and prepare for the subsequent marking period. There shall also be a scheduled one-half (1/2) student day at the end of the first (1st) and third (3rd) marking periods to allow Employees time to finalize quarter grades and prepare for the subsequent marking period. The school calendar will also include one-half (1/2) days for students and staff before the Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations. During the three district staff development days during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years, K-12 Employees will be able to meet according to curriculum cycle to work on Pre-Phase activities: define K-12 scope and sequence, identify academic standards and anchors, write essential questions and enduring understandings, and work on common assessments including item analysis and standards alignment. Employees will be required to work an additional eight (8) flexible hours for District-directed activities in increments of two (2) hours, with at least thirty (30) calendar days of notice, four (4) Veterans’ Day (5) Thanksgiving Day and times per year. In the day following (6) Christmas Eve (7) Christmas Day (8) New Year's Day (9) Three Kings’ Day (10) Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxx'x Birthday (11) Xxxxxxx's Birthday (12) Washington's Birthday (13) Good Friday (14) Eid al-Fitr (15) Memorial Day (16) Juneteenth (c) A yearly calendar shall event a District school or schools are closed early due to inclement weather, a natural disaster, electrical or power failure, or other similar event, Employees are required to remain at the school for a maximum of 45 minutes following the last bus leaving the building, or until the principal or Superintendent dismisses them, whichever is earlier. Under no circumstances would any Employee be discussed with required to stay beyond the Federation prior to June 1 annually and published. (d) Notwithstanding these provisions the Board reserves its statutory rights to change the length and scheduling end of the student school day (except for the length and the scheduling of teacher lunch periods and teacher contracted work day. Employees agree to the date attend two evening events for a max of two hours each unless agreed upon which all other teachers are required to reportby employee and administrative designee. However, notwithstanding the foregoing, the Board may schedule two non-teaching work days contiguous to the beginning or end of the work year, provided the total length of the work year, including these two days, shall not exceed the overall one hundred eighty-six (186) workday limit. (b) The following days Such events shall not be scheduled school days: for more than two (2) hours and shall end no later than 8:00 PM local time. The Employee may be excused by the School Principal. The length and scheduling start of the school year will not be changed without and five (5) one-hour meetings throughout the school year with a schedule provided prior notification to the Federation start of the year. Such meetings shall be scheduled outside the regular work day. Mentors shall only attend the one (1) orientation day. There shall be a scheduled full day at the end of the second (2nd) marking period to allow Employees time to finalize quarter grades and opportunity prepare for the subsequent marking period. During the professional work year, the Administration shall schedule two half (½) day professional development days. The placement of the days in the professional work year shall be at the discretion of the Administration. The school calendar will also include one-half (½) days for students and staff before the Thanksgiving and Winter vacations. In the event a District school or schools are closed early due to negotiate inclement weather, a natural disaster, electrical or power failure, or other similar event, Employees are required to remain at the impact school for a maximum of 45 minutes following the last bus leaving the building, or until the principal or Superintendent dismisses them, whichever is earlier. There will be no meetings or trainings scheduled during this time. Under special circumstances, a situation may arise that require student supervision during emergencies beyond the regular dismissal time for students . After the emergency has concluded, the Parties shall meet to discuss whether any compensation may be owed for such changeadditional service. Department of Pupil Services: • Secondary School Counselors shall work a maximum extra twenty days after the contractual year and prior to the start of the next one as determined by the Superintendent or designee. Each day shall be paid at the employee’s per diem rate. The days shall be mutually agreed upon by May 15th and set by the Superintendent or designee. • Nurses and School Psychologists shall work a maximum of fifty (50) hours after the contractual year and prior to the start of the next one as determined by the Superintendent or designee. The hours shall be mutually agreed upon with the Superintendent or designee. These hours worked shall be paid at the employee’s per diem hourly rate. • For the above two categories of employees, the extended work year shall begin in the summer of 2023, which may include dates that pre-date the start of this contract. The parties agree the extended work year for these employees shall begin in the summer of 2023 under the terms identified herein.
