Common use of Seniority Accrual Clause in Contracts

Seniority Accrual. Employees shall maintain and accrue seniority for: (a) all service within the bargaining unit, subject to Clause 11.8; (b) periods of leave for illness or injury for a maximum period of two (2) years commencing from the first day of illness or injury under the STIIP plan; (c) periods of leave for any purpose except as outlined in Clause 11.6; (d) where an employee is on leave for illness or injury exceeding two (2) years, the employee shall retain seniority to that point but not continue to accrue seniority; (e) leave of absence periods of up to one (1) year for upgrading or maintaining job related skills. Reasons for the leave should be clearly stated and agreed to prior to leave commencement. (f) Employees shall maintain but not accrue seniority for periods of employment in another bargaining unit.
