Common use of Seniority and Order of Layoff Clause in Contracts

Seniority and Order of Layoff. When a classified employee is laid off, the order of layoff within the class shall be determined by the length of service. “Length of Service” shall be defined by date of hire in a probationary status. The employee who has been employed the shortest time in the class, plus higher classes, shall be laid off first (1st). Reemployment shall be in reverse order of layoff.
