Common use of Serious Family Illness Clause in Contracts

Serious Family Illness. After one year of continuous employment with the Employer, if a Registered Nurse's spouse, child, parent, or parent-in-law becomes injured or seriously ill and requires constant care, the Registered Nurse may apply for a leave of absence of up to six (6) months to care for the ill or injured family member. The application must be in writing provided in advance as soon as practical of the requested leave, submitted to the Registered Nurse's supervisor and shall be granted by the Employer. The Employer may require verification of illness by the family member's physician. Serious family illness or injury is defined to be identical to the definition used in the Family and Medical Leave Act.
