Shift Trades. 6.16.01 Employees may arrange trade shifts or portions thereof with qualified employees in increments of twenty-four (24) hours, fourteen (14) hours, or ten (10) hours, under the following conditions. An employee making such a trade shall enter that fact on Telestaff and on the station calendar at the fire station to which he or she is assigned at the time he or she makes the agreement for another employee to work their shift subject to the Manager's approvaltrade, consistent with the following:
6.16.01.01 Other than in exceptional circumstances, advice and shall inform his or her company officer of the trade at that time. Such trade must be approved by the Division Chief. Employees may make trades with qualified employees of less than ten (10) hours under the following conditions. All trades between employees shall be repaid within twelve (12) months of the date of the trade unless the employee responsible for repaying the trade is assigned to a non-suppression assignment or suffers an illness or injury, in which case the twelve (12) month repayment period shall be extended by the period of such assignment, illness or injury. No trade shall involve the payment of monetary compensation from one employee to another. If an employee has arranged a shift trade with another employee and that employee fails to report for work on the day he or she was to work for the first employee, the second employee shall be required to make up that time in accordance with Fire Department rules and regulations and the second employee will not be compensated for the day he or she failed to report for work. If an employee has arranged for a shift trade with another employee and that employee fails to report for work due to an industrial injury on the day he or she was to work for the first employee, the first employee shall be required to make up that time in accordance with Fire Department rules and regulations. All such time shall be made up in full shifts or, if the trade was for less than a full shift, in the same period of time as the trade. Employees accepting to work a trade are expected to be on duty the entire length of time agreed to. Employees unable to work the full amount of the trade time should not agree to work the trade. Employees on trade status assume the assignment of the employee he/she is replacing. Assignments will be provided made based on the seniority and qualifications of the employee assigned to the Manager shift who requested the trade. (Status on eligibility list does not pass from the employee off on trade to the employee working the trade). For approved trades between ranks an employee trading up in writingrank will assume the assignment of the employee being replaced, provided another employee with the appropriate rank is not available for such assignment. A Firefighter may trade with any other Firefighter, or with an Apparatus Operator subject to limitations stated within Apparatus Operator definitions, or following a traded shift and premium credits on a holiday, in accordance with Article 7.03 and Article 13 respectively, will be credited to the employee who worked the shift as though the shift had been the employee's scheduled shift.

31.2.2.1 An employee who fails to report for an agreed upon shift trade shall be charged the equivalent incurred cost of the Employer for replacement out herein of their vacation bank in hours (i.e., overtime replacement twenty four (24) hours equates to thirty six (36) hours vacation) at a rate of 1 1/2 hours for each hour not worked. If no overtime is incurred, then the employee will result be charged vacation leave at the regular rate.
31.2.2.2 An employee who calls in sick prior to an agreed upon shift trade shall be charged the equivalent of the cost incurred to the Employer for replacement out of their sick leave bank of hours (i.e., overtime replacement of twenty four (24) hours equates to thirty six (36) hours sick leave) at the rate of 1-1/2 hours for each hour not worked. If no overtime is incurred, the employee will be charged sick leave at the regular rate. An employee without sufficient sick leave to cover the equivalent cost shall have the commensurate hours taken from their vacation bank.
31.2.2.3 If an employee is responsible to work a trade, and subsequently goes on a disability or other approved FMLA or emergency leave, the employee shall be charged from their leave bank as if they were working their normally assigned shift.
31.3 If an employee becomes sick or disabled while in the immediate suspension performance of the “partial a shift trade privileges” for the employee. Shift Trades. 6.16.01 Employees may arrange for another employee to work their shift subject to the Managersupervisor's approval, consistent with the following:
6.16.01.01 : Other than in exceptional circumstances, advice of the trade will be provided to the Manager supervisor in writing, in advance, and will be signed by the employees involved.
6.16.01.02 The employee who works a traded . All time credits and shift premiums for the scheduled shift will be paid for credited to the time employee who was scheduled to work the shift as though they had worked at his/her rate of pay.
6.16.01.03 the shift. Overtime worked prior to or following a traded shift and premium credits on a holiday, in accordance with Article 7.03 and Article 13 respectively, will be credited to the employee who worked the shift as though the shift had been the employee's scheduled shift.
6.16.01.04 . All recall credits will be credited to the employee who is recalled.
6.16.01.05 All time debits will be deducted from the employee who agreed to work the shift.
6.16.01.06 . Company sick leave provisions will apply to the employee who agreed to work the shift and only to the amount provided for in such regulations. All time not worked in excess of one (1) full shift during a work day shall be debited in accordance with Article 6.16.01.05.
6.16.01.07 Shift trades may only be arranged between employees working in the same location except that, at locations with thirty (30) or less fullFull-time Time employees, shift trades may be arranged by employees at these locations with employees at other locations within the same base and classification. Such shift trades may be granted subject to the employees concerned being qualified to perform capable of performing the work function of the other party.
6.16.01.08 . An employee's ability to trade shifts is not intended to allow employees to be absent from the work place for extended periods of time nor to take alternate employment.
6.16.01.09 . Partial shift trades are permitted only in Reservations locations, and Customer Relations provided that no shift is split into more than two (2) parts. No more than two (2) employees may cover a single shift. Partial
6.16.01.10 Partial shift trades are subject to the same conditions and approvals as referenced above. It will be the sole responsibility of the employees to ensure that the introduction of partial shift trades has absolutely no adverse operational and customer service impact.
6.16.01.11 . Under no circumstances shall an employee be allowed to leave his/her assigned duties or work area until their task is completed. His/her “shift trade partner” must be present and ready to take over their next assignment. This transition needs to be seamless to the customer.
6.16.01.12 . There will not be additional meal or rest periods assigned to a shift subject to a partial shift trade. Meal and rest periods will be taken as scheduled.
