Common use of Sick Leave Defined Clause in Contracts

Sick Leave Defined. (a) Sick leave means the period of time an employee is absent from work without loss of pay by virtue of being sick or disabled, or under examination or treatment of a physician, chiropractor, or dentist, or because of an accident for which compensation is not payable under the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act. (b) Employees who are in receipt of Long Term Disability benefits, or who are laid off, or on authorized sick leave or authorized leave of absence for a period of greater than thirty (30) consecutive days will not be eligible for the Sick Leave Allowance entitlement for the period they are on such leave, layoff or benefit. The above does not apply to Workplace Safety & Insurance Board benefits for the first twelve (12) months of absence.
