Special Day Classes. The District shall utilize the Special Education Local Plan Agency (SELPA) placement guidelines for Special Day Classes. The Director of Special Education shall establish a committee of Special Education teachers and site administrators to review the class size ratios of Special Day Classes. In determining the appropriate class size for a Special Day Class, the District shall consider the following criteria: • Range and severity of disabilities/handicaps; • Student’s age and behavioral variables; • Extent of need for individual instruction; • Amount of time student is enrolled in special classes and/or participates in regular classrooms; and • Current class size.

Special Day Classes. The District agrees to maintain Special Day Class size which will not exceed the maximum average of eleven (11) pupils throughout the District. Within this average of eleven (11), the District shall exert a reasonable effort to maintain a range of six (6) to fourteen (14)
Special Day Classes. For the first student over 14, one additional hour of aide time will be provided daily, and for each student over 15, an additional 30 minutes of aide time will be provided daily.

Should the class size reach fourteen (14), the affected Unit Member may request additional resources from the Senior Director of Special Education Services/SELPA. This Memorandum of Understanding shall remain in effect beginning July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, and thereafter shall revert back to Article VIII of the Certificated Collective Bargaining Agreement. This MOU shall not be construed as a precedent for any future circumstance or as establishing a past practice for any purpose.
