Common use of Standby Pay Clause in Contracts

Standby Pay. A department head, with the approval of the County Administrator, may designate employees in certain classes to be in a standby status. An employee who is on standby status must be at a location where the employee can be reached at all times and upon being called shall return to work immediately. An employee who is recalled to work shall be deemed to be off standby status and the employee shall not receive standby pay for the hours the employee is paid to work, whether on a straight time or overtime basis. Employees who perform standby duty shall be compensated at 20% of their regular hourly rate.
