(c) Should the Employer require an employee to have a pager, beeper, or a cellular phone available during their standby period, then all related expenses for such device will be the responsibility of the Employer.

Standby Provisions. (a) Where regular employees are required to standby to be called for duty under conditions which restrict their normal off-duty activities, they shall be compensated at straight-time in the proportion of one (1) hour's pay for each three (3) hours' standby. An employee designated for standby shall be immediately available for duty during the period of standby at a known telephone number. No standby payment shall be made if an employee is unable to be contacted or to report for duty when required. The provisions of this clause do not apply to part-time employees who are not assigned a regular working schedule and who are normally required to work whenever called. (b) Regular employees on standby in a relief operation, such as a xxxxxxx pool, shall be compensated one (1) day's basic pay for twelve (12) hours' standing by. Where the time spent on standby is followed by a full shift being worked, employees shall be compensated at the straight-time rate in the proportion of one (1) hour's pay for each four (4) hours of standing by in addition to their normal day's pay with a minimum of one (1) hour's standby. (c) Employees required to standby under paragraph (a) will not be required to standby on two (2) consecutive weekends or two (2) consecutive designated paid holidays, except by mutual agreement. The provisions of this paragraph will not apply in emergency situations.

(e) In cases of emergency, and for those employees who have not traditionally been scheduled for standby on a regular basis, standby may be assigned without 30 days' notice, but the Employer shall endeavour to give as much advance notice as possible. (f) Standby assigned on the employee's scheduled day of work will abut the shift and be a minimum of six hours. Standby assigned on a day of rest will be for a minimum of 12 hours per day. (g) Employees whose movements are restricted due to responsibility for the care and/or safety of livestock or equipment during non-working hours, shall be considered as on standby. (h) The Employer will consult with the Union prior to initiating standby programs where they have not existed previously. This provision shall not apply to standby situations made necessary by emergency conditions.
