Subgrade Sample Clauses

Subgrade. Top surface of Roadbed upon which Base Course or Surface Course is constructed. For roads without Base Course or Surface Course, that portion of Roadbed prepared as the finished wearing surface.
Subgrade. The soil which forms the Pavement foundation.
Subgrade. Surface or elevation of subsoil remaining after completing excavation, or top surface of a fill or backfill, before placing planting soil.
Subgrade. The top Earthwork surface of a Roadbed, prior to application of Select (or stabilized) Material courses, shaped to conform to the typical section on which the Pavement Structure and Shoulders are constructed, or surface that must receive an additional material layer, such as topsoil, stone or other Select Material.

The subgrade limits ordinarily include those portions of the roadbed shown in the plans to be constructed to a design bearing value or to be otherwise specially treated. Where no limits are shown in the plans, the subgrade section extends to a depth of 12 inches below the bottom of the base or pavement and outward to 6 inches beyond the base, pavement, or curb and gutter.
Subgrade. The top surface of the Roadbed on which subbase, base, surfacing, pavement, or layers of similar materials are placed.
Subgrade. The uppermost surface of an excavation or the top surface of a fill or backfill immediately below subbase course, drainage fill, or topsoil materials.

The point at which construction is sufficiently complete in accordance with the Contract Documents so that the Owner can occupy or utilize the Project for the use for which it is intended. This occurs when (a) the portion of the Work is designated in a Certificate of Substantial Completion prepared by the Engineer, (b) appropriate public authorities authorize the occupancy or use, and (c) occupancy or use is authorized by all applicable local, state, and federal laws. The date of Substantial Completion shall be established by a certificate of Substantial Completion signed by the Owner and Contractor. The Certificate shall list the items to be completed or corrected, and establish the time for their completion and correction within the time frame for the Date of Final Completion.
Subgrade. Top surface of roadbed upon which the pavement structure, shoulders, and curbs are constructed. Traveled Way. The portion of the roadway designated for the movement of vehicles, exclusive of shoulders but including turnouts and curve widening.
SubgradeX. Xxxxxxx to a depth of six-inches (6”) and compact. B. Do not work on subgrade while ground is frozen or muddy. C. Remove exposed cobbles, stones or boulders greater than six-inches (6”) in size that create an irregular surface at subgrade. Backfill resulting voids with crushed gravel base course compacted to specific density. D. Carefully compact near structures to avoid damage. E. Compact an consolidate subgrades for structures or trench bottoms such that they are free from mud and sufficiently stable to remain firm, dense and intact under the feet of workmen. 1. Reinforce subgrades with stabilization material which are otherwise solid, but become muddy on top due to construction operations. 2. Finish stabilized subgrade to elevations shown on the drawings. F. Level and compact subgrade so that surface materials will bond well with the first layer of backfill, fill or embankment.
