B. Starting time and completion time will be established by the Board and Administration for each building. Each high school and middle school teacher will be provided one (1) conference period during the student day. F. Elementary grades When substitutes are not available for classroom assignments, due to teacher absences, the following steps will be provided two fifteentaken by the Administration:

In the provisions event that media specialists are assigned to a class, in lieu of this Article a substitute, the above rates shall be made without apply. Under these circumstances the prior media center shall remain open. (Should it become necessary to place more than one class in the media center it can done only with the consent of the Unionmedia specialists, except in case of emergency where such prior consent could not have reasonably been obtained. C. Each teacher shall be required to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences and the back-to-school open house.
D. At the secondary level, every teacher shall be responsible for one (1) major assignment and one minor assignment without extra pay. Major and minor assignments will be the responsibility of the building principal with the approval of the Superintendent. The existing minor assignments shall be on a voluntary or yearly rotation basis. The major assignment is the teaching assignment. School clubs, supervision at school events, and hall duty shall be considered minor assignments. Coaching, school play advisors, class advisors, yearbook advisor, student council advisor, National Xxxxx Xxxxxxx advisor, and Band Director are considered major extra-duty assignments and shall be paid in accordance with Appendix C and Appendix D. It is understood that minor assignments are to be assigned during the regular school day only and shall not infringe on the guaranteed planning time.

TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers will observe the following hours: 15 minutes before the teacher’s first teaching assignment, and 15 minutes after the teacher’s last teaching assignment. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. This Article will be presented in two sections. The first, designated “trimester” will incorporate the trimester Letter of Understanding into the body of the contract and will be applicable for the term of this Agreement, covering the July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011 and June 29, 2011 through June 30, 2013 contracts. The second section will contain those provisions applicable should the Board of Education reinstate the high school seven period day pursuant to Paragraph B(2).
A. This provision became effective for the 2011-2012 and 2013-13 school years. As part of his/her professional responsibilities, a teacher will be available for meetings with students, other teachers, parents and administrators. These meetings, whenever possible, shall be prearranged and scheduled during the pupil day. In order to satisfy this provision, a teacher shall not make personal commitments that will make him/her consistently unavailable for such after school meetings. This provision shall not be used to capriciously require teacher to stay beyond the minimum time set forth below. Teachers shall be expected to report for duty 15 minutes in advance of sufficient time before the start of schoolthe school day to be prepared for the arrival of students each day and may leave after the completion of their assigned duties. In those schools where there are two or more media specialists or two or more guidance counselors, their work day may be adjusted to a maximum of one (1) hour (earlier or later) with the mutual agreement of the media specialist or guidance counselor and his/her supervisor without being paid additional compensation. Said adjustment will not result in any alteration of the total daily time requirement.
B. Hours 1. Faculty meetings shall normally be held on a regularly scheduled day. There shall not be more than a total of instruction in all buildings shall be similar.
C. GHS and GES teachers shall be expected to remain in their building twenty (20) hours of faculty meetings per year. If scheduled at the end of the instructional day for a minimum day, faculty meetings must begin within ten (10) minutes of 10 minutes to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. GMS teachers shall be expected to remain in their building at the end of the instructional day student day. Exceptions may be made to this provision for each teacher, who is assigned to a minimum district wide department, to attend up to five (5) additional meetings during the school year that may be scheduled by such district wide department, and in the event of 7 minutes unusual circumstances requiring additional meeting. Provided, however, the building FAC and administration may agree to complete those use faculty meetings for the purposes of establishing professional duties which must be undertaken within development opportunities for the classroom building staff. If such a determination is made, the building FAC and buildingadministration will development a building professional development calendar coordinated with the district wide professional development calendar. This GMS release time shall be followed as long as The building professional development opportunities will consist of up to ninety (90) minute blocks of professional development scheduled before or after the school day consists as determined by the building FAC and administration. Ninety (90) minute blocks for the purposes of 7 class periodsbuilding professional development opportunities is defined as a full ninety (90) minute period of time. For the 2011/2012 school year, each class period lasting 54 minutesbeginning with October, 2011, up to three (3) ninety (90) minute blocks may be scheduled. All teachers Beginning with the 2012/2013 school year up to five (5) ninety (90) minute blocks may leave their be scheduled. Because of the school calendar and the scheduling of various recesses and other teacher obligations, scheduling of these building professional development opportunities will be no more than one per month for the following months: September, October, January, February, Xxxxx, April and May. Professional Development at the end of building level is defined to include PLC’s, team time; assessments and other appropriate activities as defined by the instructional day on Fridays or the last instructional day of the weekbuilding FAC and administration.

C. The normal weekly teaching load shall provide for preparation/conference time of not less than 250 minutes including passing per week. Teachers' responsibilities during preparation/conference time will be preparation of lessons, meeting with students and parents, conferring with colleagues and administrators, and other job related responsibilities. Conferences, Administrative Meetings, IEPC's and similar meetings shall be cooperatively scheduled in advance unless an unscheduled need arises. Teachers are to remain in their respective buildings during this time, unless excused by their Building Principal. Teachers shall not be assigned students or placed in a supervisory position during their preparation/conference time, excluding emergency substitute assignment referred to in paragraph H of this article.
D. Prior to June 1, the Elementary Principal will present a tentative "Specials" schedule to the Elementary staff for the following year for review and suggestions. Efforts will be made to schedule maximum consecutive minutes whenever possible. "Specials" schedules are subject to change should unforeseen situations occur. One week prior to the start of school, Elementary teachers' schedules will be made available upon request.
E. Middle and high school teachers shall not be required to have more than five (5) different subject preparations per day. Upon written request by the Association, the Board agrees to provide teacher input into scheduling classes for the coming school year. With mutual consent between the Secondary teacher and the Administration, a Secondary teacher may be requested to teach more than one course offering per hour.
F. Elementary grades will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods per day and teachers in elementary grades will work a maximum of two assigned duty periods per week. Grade levels grouped together for recess periods will have teachers from the combined grade levels so grouped to supervise the entire recess period.
G. Teachers of music, art and the laboratory sciences, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a full-time paraprofessional, physical education and all special education teachers shall be provided with relief and preparation time to the same extent as other teachers at their grade levels.
H. No departure from the provisions of this Article these norms shall be made without prior consultation with the prior consent teacher and the Association. In the event of any disagreement between the representative of the UnionBoard and the Association as to the need and desirability of such deviation, the matter may be processed through the professional grievance procedure hereinafter set forth.
G. No teacher shall be required to teach more than the normal teaching load as set forth in this Article. An extra class may be offered to any teacher during their preparation/conference period. Teachers who accept this teaching period during the preparation/conference period on a semester or annual basis will receive an addition of 1/6 of their respective salaries. Teachers who substitute during their preparation/conference period will receive the Schedule B stipend per conference period.
H. All Distance Learning classes offered during the school day will be staffed by a CPSEA member. Each Bargaining Unit Member shall receive additional compensation for the supervisory positions when these assignments are above their normal teaching hours. This compensation shall be at the same rate as a "Conference Period Substitute". There will be no reduction in the total number of bargaining unit members employed or the hours worked as a result of distance learning classes.
I. Any schedule deviating from the traditional 7 period day in the Middle/High School or the traditional elementary day, will include input from the Association.
J. The faculty will be given one day's notice of meetings, except in case cases of emergency where such emergency. All teachers are to attend and remain in the meeting until or unless excused by the administration.
K. In the event counselors are required to work prior consent could not have reasonably been obtainedto the start of the school year or after the end of the normal school year, the principal will determine the amount of time needed. The TEA and the Board agree that should other viable options to providing elementary planning time arise, the TEA may request to convene a Labor/Management Committee to review options, and if both parties agree, implement said options through the normal ratification process.
C. Each teacher shall be required to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences and the back-to-school open house.
D. At the secondary level, every teacher shall be responsible for one major assignment and one minor assignment without extra pay. Major and minor assignments will be the responsibility of the building principal with the approval of the Superintendent. The existing minor assignments shall be on a voluntary or yearly rotation basis. The major assignment is the teaching assignment. School clubs, supervision at school events, and hall duty shall be considered minor assignments. Every effort will be made to call at least one (1) hour prior to the start of 7 minutes to complete those professional duties which must the teacher’s school day.

D. The normal daily teaching load in the Middle School elementary school building will be six teaching sections not exceed five hours and one unassigned prep. The normal weekly teaching load in the High School will be four teaching sections and one unassigned prep37 minutes of pupil contact per day. Assignment of to a supervised study period shall be considered a teaching period for the purpose purposes of interpreting this sectionArticle. No additional student-teacher contact time will be added without mutual agreement.
D. Teaching assignments for part-time teachers shall be scheduled in continuous time blocks. In the event that this does not occur, the part-time teacher will be compensated for all unassigned periods scheduled within their teaching block. The rate of compensation for such periods will be the same as compensation for assigned periods.
E. All teachers shall be entitled to a duty-freefree lunch period, uninterrupted lunch period except that all teachers may be asked to share supervision of no less than 25 minutes including passing timestudents in case of emergency or early release as determined by the building principal.
F. Elementary grades will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods per day and teachers in elementary grades will work a maximum of two assigned duty periods per week. Grade levels grouped together for recess periods will have teachers from the combined grade levels so grouped to supervise the entire recess period.
G. Teachers of music, art and the laboratory sciences, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a full-time paraprofessional, physical education and all special education teachers shall be provided with two (2) relief and preparation time to periods per day. One period will be forty-five (45) continuous minutes.
G. If a teacher shall teach more than the same extent normal teaching load as other teachers set forth in the Article, he/she shall receive additional compensation at their grade levels$15.00 per teaching period.
H. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers recognize the principle of the forty (40) hour week as divided into five (5) days of equal length. Daily attendance will be required as follows:
1. Teachers will be present at school for 7 hours and 45 minutes each day. (Thirty (30) of these minutes will be a duty free lunchtime.)
2. The contractual report time for teachers will be between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM as established by district and building administration.
3. The report time and student start time will be shared with staff by August 15 of each year unless unanticipated facts and circumstances prevent it. In that case staff will be provided information of tentative times and a general description of the issues causing the delay in the determination of the start and report times.
4. Teacher report time will be at least 5 minutes before the official student start time.
a. It is understood that if it is determined necessary to adjust the start and/or report times the staff will have at least two (2) weeks’ notice with the preferred notice being at least a full month.
5. The end of the workday for teachers will be between 3:15 PM and 3:45 PM in conjunction with the requirements of the previous two (2) bullet points.
6. Teachers are required to attend scheduled meetings of the building, grade level, department, or other grouping as is deemed necessary by the administration. There will be a maximum of 2 hours of these meetings each month and the meetings may be held in the AM or PM. Building administration will determine the date, time, and location of said meetings. When possible these meetings will not be scheduled on Friday afternoons. If these minutes are called to be held before school in the (AM) they will not be scheduled to begin before 7:00 o’clock unless agreed upon by the building administrator and building GEA representative.
a. Principals will provide a tentative meeting schedule for staff meetings at the beginning of the school year to assist staff with planning their personal calendar. It is understood that the principal may need to make adjustments to the meeting schedule after the school year begins. It is also understood that some of the meetings covered by this time are not known at the beginning of the school year but that principals will do their best to keep staff informed of new meetings and provide as much lead-time as possible. This administrative meeting time can be used for PLC time at the discretion of the administration.
b. Principals will try to not schedule more than two (2) AM meetings a month with the understanding that this does not prevent additional meetings from being scheduled in the PM. Scheduled PLC meetings of the building, grade level, department, or other groupings as is deemed necessary by the administration. PLCs will meet twice a month for a maximum of two hours per month; such meeting shall be at least 30 minutes in duration. When possible these meetings will not be scheduled on Friday afternoons. If these meetings are planned to be held before school (AM) they will not be scheduled to begin before 7:00 o’clock unless agreed upon by the building administrator and the PLC group members.
c. PLC teams will work with their building administration to develop the dates, time, and location of said meetings. It is understood that administration may need to call for PLC meetings or adjust meeting schedules throughout the year. In these cases, the administrator will give as much lead-time as possible.
7. The administration recognizes that teachers are present in the district for an average of at least 40 hours a week.
B. If any provision of this agreement restricts the school district in reaching the required amount of instructional time, the district reserves the right to adjust the schedules as necessary to assure minimum compliance. Adjustments in such instances will not require additional compensation unless such adjustments alter present contractual agreements. The staff of each building shall have input into any adjustments in the schedule to meet these requirements.
C. Teachers shall be expected to report for duty 15 minutes in advance of the start of school.

H. A teacher engaged during the school day in negotiation in behalf of a meeting the Association with any representative of the UnionBoard or participating in any professional grievance negotiation, including mediation, shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary.
I. If staff conferencesTeachers are expected to be at work during normal working hours on all working days in accordance with the school calendar, committee meetings whether or parent/not classes are actually in session except for Act of God days as stated in Article XV. In the event the teacher conferences exceed ten (10) is unable to attend according to normal hours, the teacher shall notify the Sub system not later than 1.5 hours per month, inclusive before their scheduled report time of the time spent reason for not being in attendance. Teachers shall be informed of a telephone number or web access, if available, of the Sub system. The teacher shall report when he or she can be expected to arrive in the classroom after student dismissalevent that normal hours cannot be met. 1. At the High School (9-12), the maximums plus up to three additional students shall be allowed without the consent of the teacher. Teachers will be paid $1.25 a day, per student per class period over the classroom maximums.

Librarians, counselors, and other bargaining unit members whose positions are not primarily student instruction oriented shall not be provided with assigned preparation time.
G. A teacher engaged during the school day in negotiating in behalf of the Association with any representative of the Board or participating in any professional grievance negotiation, including arbitration, shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary.

TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. 6.1 Teachers shall be expected to report for duty 15 minutes in advance not work more than a continuous seven and one-half hour (7 1/2 ) school day inclusive of the start of school.

6.6 Teachers shall be free to leave the building during their preparation period or lunch period with the approval of the building principal.
6.7 The teaching staff and the administration in excess thereof at each building shall establish a rotating hall supervision schedule relative to the needs of each building, provided that this does not interrupt the teacher's hourly ratelunch period or preparation period.
J. District administration will make efforts to limit 6.8 The teacher preparations to 4 during any marking period employed for noon hall and/or outside duty shall receive $14.50 per hour or $7.25 per half-hour. This employment is at the high discretion of the building administrator.
6.9 The Board and the Federation recognize that the pupil-teacher ratio in individual classrooms which exceeds thirty (30) to one (1) detracts from a good educational program, except for special classes. Therefore, the parties agree that the class size should not exceed thirty (30) to one (1). The parties also agree to form a committee made up of Board and Federation representatives which shall meet after the Fourth Wednesday of the school or middle school levelyear. District administration The purpose of the committee is to discuss any class size overloads which may exist. The committee shall make recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools to alleviate these overload classes. Within one calendar month, these recommendations will consult be reported to the Board of Education in a public meeting. The Superintendent shall report back to this committee no less than three (3) days after the next Board meeting on these recommendations.
6.10 Should there be a change in the job description of an employee, Administration will provide the Federation with CAFT leadership when preparations exceed 4 during any marking periodan opportunity to discuss the said change in a timely manner.

TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. This Article will be presented in two sections. The first, designated “trimester” will incorporate the trimester Letter of Understanding into the body of the contract and will be applicable for the term of this Agreement, covering the July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011 and June 29, 2011 through June 30, 2013 contracts. The second section will contain those provisions applicable should the Board of Education reinstate the high school seven period day pursuant to Paragraph B(2).
A. This provision became effective for the 2011-2012 and 2013-13 school years. As part of his/her professional responsibilities, a teacher will be available for meetings with students, other teachers, parents and administrators. These meetings, whenever possible, shall be prearranged and scheduled during the pupil day. In order to satisfy this provision, a teacher shall not make personal commitments that will make him/her consistently unavailable for such after school meetings. This provision shall not be used to capriciously require teacher to stay beyond the minimum time set forth below. Teachers shall be expected to report for duty 15 minutes in advance of sufficient time before the start of schoolthe school day to be prepared for the arrival of students each day and may leave after the completion of their assigned duties. In those schools where there are two or more media specialists or two or more guidance counselors, their work day may be adjusted to a maximum of one (1) hour (earlier or later) with the mutual agreement of the media specialist or guidance counselor and his/her supervisor without being paid additional compensation. Said adjustment will not result in any alteration of the total daily time requirement.
B. Hours 1. Faculty meetings shall normally be held on a regularly scheduled day. There shall not be more than a total of instruction in all buildings shall be similar.
C. GHS and GES teachers shall be expected to remain in their building twenty (20) hours of faculty meetings per year. If scheduled at the end of the instructional day for a minimum day, faculty meetings must begin within ten (10) minutes of 10 minutes to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. Exceptions may be made to this provision for each teacher, who is assigned to a minimum district wide department, to attend up to five (5) additional meetings during the school year that may be scheduled by such district wide department, and in the event of 7 minutes unusual circumstances requiring additional meeting. Provided, however, the building FAC and administration may agree to complete those use faculty meetings for the purposes of establishing professional duties which must be undertaken within development opportunities for the classroom building staff. If such a determination is made, the building FAC and buildingadministration will development a building professional development calendar coordinated with the district wide professional development calendar. This GMS release time shall be followed as long as The building professional development opportunities will consist of up to ninety (90) minute blocks of professional development scheduled before or after the school day consists as determined by the building FAC and administration. Ninety (90) minute blocks for the purposes of 7 class periodsbuilding professional development opportunities is defined as a full ninety (90) minute period of time. For the 2011/2012 school year, each class period lasting 54 minutesbeginning with October, 2011, up to three (3) ninety (90) minute blocks may be scheduled. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers The teaching day for all teachers shall be expected to report for duty start 15 minutes in advance prior to the regularly scheduled school day and end 10 minutes after the regularly scheduled school day, except that on Fridays and the day before holidays the teachers may leave five minutes after dismissal. No teacher in grades 6-12 shall be assigned more than seven (7) teaching hours during the regularly scheduled school day. In the event a teacher is requested to teach in place of another teacher during his/her conference hour, the teacher will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods compensated at the teachers’ hourly rate per day Schedule A. A teacher assistant shall be assigned with a workday of musicno less than 4.5 hours per school day for full day sessions of developmental kindergarten, art transition, and kindergarten classes. The teacher assistant will work in the assigned developmental kindergarten, transition, or kindergarten classes in classroom activities directly connected to the teacher’s class. The classroom learning environment will not be interrupted with public address announcements or xxxx sounds when teachers are administering semester exams, MEAP tests or high school proficiency tests except in cases of emergency. There will be a district committee to assess and to make efforts to limit a suggestion(s) for scheduling any abbreviated day. The committee will be made up of one teacher preparations to 4 during any marking period and one administrator from each building.
K. Parent-teacher conferences shall be scheduled for each trimester for DK-12. There shall be conferences of an agreed upon length for each trimester. Teachers will receive ½ day compensatory time for parent-teacher conferences. Compensatory time will be mutually agreed upon with the Association and the Board. There shall be one additional evening for DK-5 conferences paid at the high hourly rate. Further, there shall be additional sessions for DK and K conferences as deemed necessary by the classroom teacher and the principal. Librarians shall be required to attend these parent-teacher conferences.
1. The Board of Education shall have the right to suspend the parent-teacher conferences due to lack of funds.
2. All teachers in grades K-12 shall be required to attend one curriculum meeting per semester for their department or area of study. Meeting dates shall be scheduled during orientation.
L. Extra-curricular activities may begin immediately after the close of the pupils’ regular school or middle school level. However, if the District request for an external posting before the five (5) or (10) day posting time has finished, to the President of the Association Bargaining Unit and the request is granted the external posting may start immediately. K. If State law requires “snow days” to be made up, the following will be adhered to:
1. All days that must be made up will be determined by the superintendent or his/her representative. If half days can legally be counted as full attendance days, this will be done. Once the days to be made up are determined, the superintendent and the Bark River-Xxxxxx Education Association President will determine when the days will be made up. If no agreement is reached, the makeup days will be added to the end of the school year.
2. If school is canceled after 8:15 A.M. and the day cannot be counted as a full or part attendance day, teachers will receive their hourly rate for all time spent that cannot be counted for State school attendance.
L. If a teacher is permanently assigned to more than the normal teaching load as set forth in this Article, the teacher will receive 1/7th of the teacher’s salary. If a teacher is required to give up their his/her prep time for any purpose in excess of three per year, he/she will receive comp time on an hour per hour basis for all teaching hours. Comp time shall be hour-for- hour. This section will apply in the elementary school when regularly scheduled music, art, physical education, etc., teachers are absent and the classroom teacher covers for the absent teacher. If the gym is not available, the gym teacher will be responsible for teaching his/her class in another part of the school or outdoors.
M. No grade-level teacher shall be a substitute against his or her will, if that action requires such teacher to leave his or her scheduled class. However, Title 1 teachers, elementary itinerants, behavioral interventionist, counselors, speech therapists, or other non-grade level specific teachers may be re-assigned to substitute teach.
N. All teachers volunteering to do hall duty, lunch room duty, after student dismissalschool spelling bee, science fair, math competition, and other programs approved by the Board will pay be granted comp time on an hour for hour basis. The Superintendent will approve the teacher number of hours of each program for any services in excess thereof at the teacher's hourly ratecompensation.

In the provisions event that media specialists are assigned to a class in lieu of this Article a substitute, the above rates shall apply. Under these circumstances the media center shall remain open. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers shall Teacher Work Day/Work Year It is recognized that the teacher's work obligation goes significantly beyond the time spent in actual classroom instruction. In addition to and in support of their classroom obligations, teachers: grade student assignments and exams; meet with parents, students, and others in addressing particular needs; participate in various planning activities in their buildings; and perform other tasks which may be expected necessary to report for duty 15 minutes effective delivery of instruction. Flexibility is given to teachers in advance meeting these obligations. It is understood that the best decision making process at the building and district levels is through a broad base of participation to create a high level of collaboration. Failure to participate will not inhibit the opportunity or responsibility of the start Board and/or administration to make policy, program, or operational decisions. Within this framework, the following specific provisions apply:
1. The teacher=s work day will be seven (7) hours and twenty (20) minutes, which will include a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch period. The work year is outlined in Article 31 of schoolthis contract.

Every reasonable effort will be made by the building principal to assign the inexperienced teacher the class with the lowest number of pupils at the elementary level, and fewest possible preparations at the high school level. Elementary planning time will be comprised weekly of five (5) unassigned, fifty (50) consecutive minutes planning periods.
C. Each teacher shall be required to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences and the back-to-school open house.
D. At the secondary level, every teacher shall be responsible for one (1) major assignment and one minor assignment without extra pay. Major and minor assignments will be the responsibility of the building principal with the approval of the Superintendent. The existing minor assignments shall be on a voluntary or yearly rotation basis. The major assignment is the teaching assignment. School clubs, supervision at school events, and hall duty shall be considered minor assignments. Coaching, school play advisors, class advisors, yearbook advisor, student council advisor, National Xxxxx Xxxxxxx advisor, and Band Director are considered extra-duty assignments and shall be paid in accordance with Appendix B and Appendix C. Teachers who will be affected by a change in grade assignments in the elementary school grades and by change in subject assignment in the secondary school grades will be notified and consulted by their principals immediately upon such action becoming apparent. Such changes will be voluntary whenever possible. Except in the case of a financial emergency, all changes in subject matter and/or grade level that a teacher will teach, must be decided, and the teacher notified 15-days after the last student instructional day per the contract year’s negotiated school calendar. This will enable teachers to better prepare for the new classes/grades that the teachers will be teaching.
E. All teachers Each teacher shall be entitled to have a duty-free, uninterrupted minimum of a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch period of no less than 25 minutes including passing timeeach day.
F. The amount to be spent on after school bus duty shall be $15.00 per day.
H. Any vacancies (Definition of Vacancy: A position newly created by the Board that is covered by this Agreement or a position shall be declared vacant when the District after making all assignments needed to fill the academic need of the District with incumbent teachers who are certified and qualified for the assignments and who are able to perform the work at the start of the assignment, and there are still more assignments open than teachers to do the work.) in teaching positions shall be made known to the staff of the district a period of seven calendar days during the school year before advertised. However, if the District request for an external posting before the five (5) or (10) day posting time has finished, to the President of the Association Bargaining Unit and the request is granted the external posting may start immediately. If the vacancy occurs during the summer, the district shall mail such openings to teachers who request being placed on the vacancy notification list. The Association President will be notified and the current staff will be given ten (10) calendar days to apply before the vacancy is advertised. If more than one staff member applies, the Board shall select from the applicants for the vacancy if the staff member meets the academic need of the vacancy in being certified and qualified. Any administrative vacancy shall be made known to the staff of the district a period of seven (7) calendar days during the school year before advertised. If the vacancy occurs during the summer, the district shall mail such openings to teachers who request being placed on the vacancy notification list. The Association President will be notified and the current staff will be given ten (10) calendar days to apply before the vacancy is advertised; preparation, experience, and ability being equal, existing staff members will receive preference. The Board and the Association agrees that the definition of Certified and Qualified is that the employee will be in compliance with the present State and Federal Laws in regard to Certification and Qualifications as specified and that this definition applies to all Articles in this Agreement. Any current staff member, who applies for a vacant teaching position at Bark River-Xxxxxx and has the appropriate certification, and qualifications necessary at the start of the assignment shall be hired for said vacancy. In cases where certifications and qualifications for the vacancy are equal, the seniority of the existing staff members will determine the assignment.
I. Teachers of music, art art, and the laboratory sciences, librarians, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a full-time paraprofessionalcounselors, physical education and all special education teachers teachers, shall be provided with relief released and preparation time to the same extent as other teachers at their grade levelsin the district.
H. No departure from J. The academic school calendar year shall not exceed 180 session days/1098 hours per year, with the provisions schools being closed on all holidays legally authorized by the Michigan School Code.
K. The superintendent may dismiss the schools when, in his/her discretion, weather, health, or building conditions warrant such action. Teachers will also be dismissed under such conditions, without loss of pay.
L. If State law requires “snow days” to be made up, the following will be adhered to:
1. All days that must be made up will be determined by the superintendent or his/her representative. If half days can legally be counted as full attendance days, this Article will be done. Once the days to be made up are determined, the superintendent and the Bark River-Xxxxxx Education Association President will determine when the days will be made up. If no agreement is reached, the make up days will be added to the end of the school year.
2. If school is canceled after 8:15 A.M. and the day cannot be counted as a full or part attendance day, teachers will receive their hourly rate for all time that cannot be counted for State school attendance.
M. If a teacher shall teach more than the normal teaching load as set forth in this Article, or if a teacher is required to give up their prep time for any purpose in excess of three per year, he/she will receive comp time on an hour per hour basis for all teaching hours. At the discretion of the administration, the teacher may receive comp time instead of money. Comp time shall be made without hour for hour. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. The school day for teachers in the senior high and middle school shall be a continuous block of seven hours with not less than a thirty-minute duty-free lunch period. The school day for teachers in the elementary schools shall be a continuous block of seven and one-half hours with not less than a forty-five minute duty-free lunch period for the 1996-97 school year, and forty minutes thereafter. The existing minor assignments shall be on a voluntary or yearly rotation basis. The major assignment is the teaching assignment. School clubs, supervision at school events, and hall duty shall be considered minor assignments. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. IN THE EVENT OF A FIVE-DAY WEEK:
A. Teachers No teacher shall be expected required to report for duty 15 earlier than twenty (20) minutes in advance before the opening of the start pupils' regular school day each morning. Teachers shall be permitted to leave five (5) minutes after close of schoolthe pupils' regular school day. An instruction day will not exceed 6 hours and 25 minutes of pupil contact per day. Assignment of to a supervised study period shall be considered a teaching period for purposes of this article. However, the purpose of interpreting principal may assign a teacher a class during his unassigned preparation period in an emergency when no substitute is available. The rate for this sectionperiod shall be $27.43.
E. C. All teachers shall be entitled to a duty-free, free uninterrupted lunch period of no less than 25 minutes including passing timethirty (30) minutes.
F. D. E. If a teacher shall teach more than the normal teaching load as set forth in the Article, he shall receive additional compensation. A regularly assigned extra class per day in school would mean an additional 1/6 in salary.
F. A teacher engaged during the school day in negotiating in behalf of the Association with any representative of the Board or participating in any professional grievance negotiation shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary. Any negotiations or processing of grievances may take place during the school hours at the discretion of the Superintendent.
G. The Board agrees at all times to maintain an adequate list for substitute teachers. Teachers shall be informed of a telephone number they shall call no less than two (2) hours prior to starting time of school, except in cases of emergency, to report unavailability for work. Once a teacher has reported unavailability, it shall be the responsibility of the administrator to arrange for a substitute. The duration teacher is responsible for lesson plans for that day. IN THE EVENT OF A 4-DAY WEEK:
H. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. D. The normal daily weekly teaching load in the Middle School for 9-12th teachers will be six 20 teaching sections periods and one 5 unassigned preppreparation periods. The normal weekly teaching load in the High School for 6-8th grade teachers will be four 30 teaching sections periods and one 5 unassigned preppreparation periods. Assignment of to a supervised study period shall be considered a teaching period for the purposes of this Article. Channel One will not be considered a preparation in an assignment. The term "unassigned preparation/conference" shall be construed to include the use of this period for the purpose of interpreting this sectionpreparation and the following when deemed necessary in the judgment of the Principal.
E. 1. Parent/Teacher conferences (advance notice will be given whenever possible).
2. Paid classroom substitution, such substitution to be on a rotating basis. If the teacher does not wish to substitute in her/his turn, the Administration shall make an attempt to secure another substitute. In the event no other can be found, the teacher scheduled shall fill the vacancy. Every attempt will be made by the Administration to prevent a teacher from being required to substitute more than once in a five day period.
3. An assignment other than teaching in an extreme emergency.
C. All teachers shall be entitled to an uninterrupted lunch period as provided in Schedule C.
1. High School teachers with a noon-time assignment shall be given an extra-duty contract rider as listed in the Extra Duty Schedule B.
2. K-8 teachers shall have a duty-free, uninterrupted free lunch period of no less than 25 minutes including passing timeat least 35 minutes. Lunchroom duties and lunch ticket responsibilities shall not be assigned to teachers.
F. Elementary grades D. 1. West Shore and Xxxxxx Xxxx teachers shall have a fifteen-minute relief period in the morning and a fifteen-minute relief period in the afternoon. Kindergarten teachers will be scheduled for a 15 minute relief period in the morning and a 15 minute relief period in the afternoon as long as State requirements are met. Otherwise said relief periods will be 10 minutes. Said relief periods shall not be scheduled during the first half-hour of the student day. The Board will not accomplish teacher relief periods by requiring teacher supervision of students other than those regularly assigned that teacher.
2. West Shore and Xxxxxx Xxxx teachers shall have a minimum of 120 minutes per week for preparation during the student day. The kindergarten teachers shall not be covered by the 120 minutes provision but the Administration will attempt to provide that time as long as State requirements are met. In place of the 30 minutes at the beginning of each day, West Shore and Xxxxxx Xxxx teachers will receive two (2) compensation days.
3. There shall be a School Building Review Committee, for all buildings, that will meet between February 1st and June 1st each year. This Committee will arrive at a mutually agreeable schedule for the following year. The Committee shall consist of the building principal and a teacher from each grade level.
E. All teachers will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods per day and teachers in elementary grades will work a maximum of two assigned duty periods per week. Grade levels grouped together for recess periods will have teachers from the combined grade levels so grouped to supervise the entire recess period.
G. Teachers of music, art and the laboratory sciences, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a full-time paraprofessional, physical education and all special education teachers shall be provided with equal relief and preparation time within their buildings. All teachers dividing their time between buildings shall receive relief and preparation time proportionate to the same extent as amount allotted to the other teachers at their grade levelsin those buildings.
H. F. No departure from the provisions of this Article shall be made without the prior consent of the Unionthese norms, except in case of emergency where such emergency, shall be made without prior consent could not have reasonably been obtainedconsultation with the Association. The duration In the event of any disagreement between the representative of the Board and the Association as to the need or desirability of such emergency deviation, the matter may be processed through the professional grievance procedure.
G. Every attempt will be made to have teachers make no more than one transfer between buildings per school day. Time allotted for this transfer shall be limited to the interval between its arising and an expeditious arranging a minimum of a meeting with the Union.
I. If staff conferences, committee meetings or parent/teacher conferences exceed ten (10) hours per monthminutes. If teachers traveling outside the district as part of their assignment lose time for prep, inclusive of the time spent lunch, or relief as specified in the classroom after agreement, she/he will be compensated according to the following: Salary divided by teacher days divided by seven (7) divided by sixty (60) = minute rate. Minute rate multiplied by minutes lost multiplied by number of student dismissal, the Board will pay the teacher for any services in excess thereof at the teacher's hourly ratedays.
J. District administration will make efforts to limit teacher preparations to 4 during any marking period at the high school or middle school level. District administration will consult with CAFT leadership when preparations exceed 4 during any marking period.

TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers The teaching day for all teachers shall be expected to report for duty start 15 minutes in advance of prior to the regularly scheduled school day and end 10 minutes after the regularly scheduled school day, except that on Fridays and the day before holidays the teachers may leave five minutes after dismissal. Teachers should be available 15 minutes prior to the start of schoolthe school day and available for 10 minutes at the conclusion of the school day. Start and end times of the school day schedule will be mutually agreed upon with the Association prior. Up to two, one-hour general staff meetings may be held per month during the months of September through May. Teachers will have forty-eight hours notice prior to such meetings except in the case of an emergency. Meeting notice will include an agenda and supplementary materials to prepare for the meeting. In case of emergency, or for professional improvement, changes may be made for individual teachers if mutually agreed upon with the Principal.
B. Hours of instruction The normal teaching assignments in all buildings grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 shall be similarscheduled class periods and one unassigned preparation period of not less than 40 minutes in length. The preparation period shall be used for class preparation, correcting papers, assisting pupils, parent conferences and is not to be considered free time for personal or Association business. Teachers may be assigned other supervisory duties during the regularly scheduled day not to include the scheduled teacher’s lunch period and/or the unassigned preparation period. The Board shall provide a daily fifteen (15) minute recess period in the morning and a fifteen (15) minute recess period in the afternoon with non-teacher supervision for kindergarten through the fifth grade.
C. GHS and GES teachers shall be expected to remain in their building If at any time during the end life of the contract, the instructional day for a hours of any student is below the minimum of 10 minutes state requirement, the board and the Association agree to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. GMS teachers shall be expected to remain in their building at the end reopen this section of the instructional day for a minimum of 7 minutes to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. This GMS release time shall be followed as long as the school day consists of 7 class periods, each class period lasting 54 minutes. All teachers may leave their building at the end of the instructional day on Fridays or the last instructional day of the weekcontract.

E. A teacher engaged during the school day in negotiations or arbitration on behalf of the Association regarding Onsted teachers with any representative of the Onsted Board, shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary not to extend beyond two days.
F. Elementary There shall be no overload assignments in High School and Middle School. (Definition: A teacher who takes an extra class for the semester for extra pay during the regularly scheduled school day - this does not include emergency substitutes.) No teacher in grades 6-12 shall be assigned more than seven (7) teaching hours during the regularly scheduled school day. In the event a teacher is requested to teach in place of another teacher during his/her conference hour, the teacher will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods compensated at the teachers hourly rate per day Schedule A. This shall be voluntary unless in cases of emergency and teachers in elementary grades opportunities will work be assigned on a maximum of two assigned duty periods per weekrotating basis. Grade levels grouped together for recess periods All teacher payments and time off will have teachers from be recorded on time sheets and documented as established by the combined grade levels so grouped to supervise the entire recess periodbusiness office.
G. The maximum load of elementary students is listed below. Elementary teachers whose assigned classes exceed 32 students shall be supplied with the services of an aide for two (2) hours per day to the maximum of 37. Beyond 37, the teacher shall be supplied the services of an aide at the rate of one (1) hour per day per student. Teachers who are assigned students identified on an IEPC will receive training in an effort to increase awareness for special education student needs. It is the board’s intention that these special education inclusion students will be spread out among Sections unless mutually agreed upon. A teacher assistant shall be assigned with a workday of musicno less than 4.5 hours per school day for full day sessions of developmental kindergarten, art transition, and kindergarten classes. The teacher assistant will work in the assigned developmental kindergarten, transition, or kindergarten classes in classroom activities directly connected to the teacher’s class. In the event the class size exceeds 26 students in a full day kindergarten, transition or developmental kindergarten, a full day teacher assistant (6.5 hours per day*) will be provided. If the class size is 18 students or fewer in a full day kindergarten, transition or developmental kindergarten classroom, a teacher assistant will not be provided. * - Note: This is not an additional teacher assistant but additional hours for the teacher assistant. Beginning with the 2005-06 school year, if full day sessions of developmental kindergarten, transition, and kindergarten classes exceeds twenty-five (25) students, the board may provide a teacher assistant for up to 6.5 hours per day. Teacher aides shall be under the supervision of the teacher while in the classroom and shall be under the general supervision of the building Principal. The Board will provide in-service training for both teacher aides and the laboratory sciences, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a fullteachers who receive the services of the aides. Teachers who do not attend the in-time paraprofessional, physical education and all special education teachers shall service training sessions may be provided with relief and preparation time to denied the same extent as other teachers at their grade levelsservices of an aide. Teachers will have input on the testing of teacher assistants.

I. If staff conferencesIn the Middle School and High School the Board of Education will strive to remain below the maximums as stated in H-2. The teacher will be compensated a stipend of $100.00 per class period in excess of thirty-three (33) students, committee meetings or parent/teacher conferences exceed ten (10) hours per month, inclusive marking period. Determination of the time spent in stipend will be based on class list of the classroom after student dismissal, third Monday of each marking period. Physical Education and music are excluded from the Board will pay the teacher for any services in excess thereof at the teacher's hourly ratestipend.
J. District administration During High School and Middle School exam week, two days shall be spent on review followed by three days of exams with teachers available to students in their classrooms. (The actual schedule is to be determined by the teachers and the administrators involved, these three days shall be one full day and two half days.) The classroom learning environment will not be interrupted with public address announcements or xxxx sounds when teachers are administering semester exams, MEAP tests or high school proficiency tests except in cases of emergency. There will be a district committee to assess and to make efforts to limit a suggestion(s) for scheduling any abbreviated day. The committee will be made up of one teacher preparations to 4 during any marking period and one administrator from each building.
K. Parent-teacher conferences shall be scheduled for each semester for DK-12. There shall be one 2-hour afternoon session and one 3-hour evening session. Teachers will receive ½ day compensatory time for parent-teacher conferences. Compensatory time will be mutually agreed upon with the Association and the Board. There shall be one additional evening for DK-5 conferences paid at the high hourly rate. Further, there shall be additional sessions for DK and K conferences as deemed necessary by the classroom teacher and the principal. Students shall be dismissed after the lunch period on days of parent-teacher conferences. These conferences shall be held the week following the first and third marking periods. Librarians shall be required to attend these parent-teacher conferences.
1. The Board of Education shall have the right to suspend the parent-teacher conferences due to lack of funds.
2. All teachers in grades 7-12 shall attend parent class night as designated by the Board of Education.
3. All teachers in grades K-12 shall be required to attend one curriculum meeting per semester for their department or area of study. Meeting dates shall be scheduled during orientation.
L. Extra-curricular activities may begin immediately after the close of the pupil’s regular school or middle school level. District administration will consult day, provided arrangements have been made with CAFT leadership when preparations exceed 4 during any marking periodthe principal for the teacher to fulfill his regular obligations.
