Temporary Assignments or Acting Positions. Employees temporarily assigned duties and responsibilities of more complexity in addition to those outlined in the current job description, or transferred temporarily to a vacant higher position in an acting capacity should receive additional compensation from the date of assignment if such assignment is continuous and is to be in excess of one month. 1. An employee assigned such additional duties and responsibilities shall be eligible for a temporary increase in salary. This recommended increase should be based on an evaluation of the assigned duties by the Department Head in consultation with the Manager of Total Compensation or designee. 2. An employee assuming a higher position in an acting capacity shall be eligible for an increase in salary to the starting rate of the range of the assumed position or an increase normally between 6%-10% for one grade level, 8%- PSSAP MANUAL (July 1, 2008) 9 12% for two grade levels, 10%-14% for three grade levels, of the current salary, whichever amount is greater, if the assignment is for a period of at least 30 calendar days. The duration of the acting period should not exceed one year.

  • Temporary Assignments When an employee is assigned temporarily by his/her appointing authority to a job for which he/she is qualified in a higher pay grade for a period of five (5) days or his/her regular workweek, whichever is less, the employee shall be paid retroactively from the initial date of the temporary transfer for the duration of the temporary assignment. The employee shall be paid as if he/she had been promoted during such assignment. In no event may an employee acquire any status in a higher classification as a result of his/her temporary assignment. Acting capacity assignments shall not be made on an arbitrary or capricious basis. Employees shall not be rotated in acting capacity in an arbitrary or capricious manner in order to avoid payment of acting capacity pay. This Article shall not be used in lieu of the proper processing of any request for reclassification or reallocation of a position pursuant to the Personnel Rules and the Reclassifications Article, or the filling of a vacancy pursuant to the Personnel Rules and the Seniority Article.

  • Temporary Assignment All MBUs who are District-initiated transfers or returning from leave of absence of more than one year may be temporarily assigned to positions other than posted vacancies, including substitute teacher positions, until they can be placed in a vacancy for which they are qualified. Such MBUs shall be placed in the first available vacancy for which they are qualified.

A temporary layoff will not affect an employee’s incremental movement, vacation and sick leave accrual rates, or seniority. C. A temporary layoff is leave without pay. An employee may not use any leave for a temporary layoff day(s).

  • Overtime Assignments 1. In classifications where employees are eligible for overtime pay, overtime work shall be offered to employees within the work location involved from the appropriate work group in continuing rotation on the basis of seniority. Each employee shall be selected in turn according to his/her place on the seniority list by rotation provided, however, the employee whose turn it is to work possesses the qualifications, training and ability to perform the specific work required. 2. An employee requesting to be skipped when it becomes his/her turn to work overtime shall not be rescheduled for overtime work until his/her name is reached again in orderly sequence and an appropriate notation shall be made on the overtime roster. 3. In the event no employee accepts required overtime work, the State shall assign employees within the work location involved from the appropriate work group to perform the overtime work by continuing rotation in inverse order of seniority. Employees who are unavailable, including employees who are on vacation, sick leave or other approved leaves of absence, and employees for whom the requirement of overtime work would cause undue hardship, shall be excused from a required overtime assignment. Employees so excused shall not lose their eligibility for overtime work within the then current rotation. 4. Work in progress, when appropriate, shall be completed by the employee performing the work at the time the determination is made that overtime is required except that an employee for whom the requirement of overtime work would cause undue hardship shall be excused from the overtime assignment.

  • Temporary Promotions In cases of prolonged absence from duty, vacancy of an approved position, or other emergencies, the appointing authority with the consent of the Director of Human Resources or designee may, in writing, temporarily promote a Regular Hire employee when such employee is regularly required to substantially perform the full duties of a budgeted position within a higher classification for a period in excess of ten (10) days. In such cases, the employee shall be paid for all hours in paid status at the rate on the salary range of the higher classification that is closest to, but not less than five percent (5%) above his or her base hourly rate in the classification in which he/she holds regular status at the time he/she is temporarily promoted. All increases shall be rounded to the nearest whole percentage using regular rounding rules. In no event shall an employee in a temporary promotion receive more than the top step of the higher classification into which the employee is temporarily promoted. If the full time status of the classification into which the employee temporarily promotes is different from the classification in which he/she holds regular status (e.g., an employee in a classification that is 37.5 hours full time per week temporarily promotes to a classification that is 40 hours per week full time, or vice versa), the employee will continue to work the scheduled hours of his/her Regular Hire classification. An employee’s eligibility for overtime and leave accrual shall be pursuant to his/her regular classification. An employee must meet the minimum qualifications for the job class to which he/she is being temporarily promoted and must have completed the first six (6) months of his or her initial probationary period with the County.
