Common use of Time-Off - Union Representatives Clause in Contracts

Time-Off - Union Representatives. The Company recognizes the importance of prompt handling of Union business, such as the handling of grievances throughout the process, negotiating of amendments to agreements, and attendance at Union meetings at various levels; the Company further recognizes the importance of the role of Union representatives in carrying out the functions of Union business. It is therefore agreed that Union representatives will be granted reasonable time off to carry out such functions. This time will be allowed as promptly as possible consistent with service pressures. In order to facilitate this process it will be the obligation of the Union representative(s) to afford as much notice as possible of such needs, and to obtain permission for the time required from their immediate supervisor/manager and the supervisor of the employee(s) involved. Additionally, the Union representative will notify their supervisor when returning to duty. In addition to the above the Company will provide eight (8) hours paid time off per week for the Union District Chairperson to conduct union business.
