Common use of Union Conferences and Conventions Clause in Contracts

Union Conferences and Conventions. Unit employees selected by the Union shall be granted leave without pay to participate in Union-called state or national conferences, conventions or educational classes provided that: 1. The Union shall give the Employer seven (7) days written advance notice naming each employee. 2. The number of named employees shall not exceed one (1) for each craft. 3. Such leave shall not exceed twenty (20) working days per contract year, per craft. 4. The absence of a named employee will not be unreasonably detrimental to the operation of municipal government. Employees granted leave under this section may, at their individual option, choose to use vacation or other compensatory time due them for this purpose. This provision shall not be considered a bar to granting longer leaves of absence without pay for Union activity.
