Common use of Union Representatives and Grievance Committee Clause in Contracts

Union Representatives and Grievance Committee. a) The Employer agrees to recognize six (6) employee representatives to be elected or appointed from employees in the bargaining unit for the purpose of dealing with Union business as provided in this Collective Agreement. It is agreed, that where possible, these representatives will not be from the same shift or from the same department. b) It is agreed that employee representatives and members of the Grievance Committee have their regular duties and responsibilities to perform for the Employer and shall not leave their regular duties without first obtaining permission from their immediate supervisor. Such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld. It is understood that union stewards shall conduct union business in their own time and if a xxxxxxx finds it necessary to meet with the employer, they shall arrange to do so at the end of their shift, unless the employer specifically requires a xxxxxxx to attend to union business during working hours. c) If, in the performance of their duties, an employee representative or member of the Grievance Committee is required to enter a unit in which she is not ordinarily employed she shall, immediately upon entering such unit, report her presence to the supervisor or person in charge, as the case may be. When resuming their regular duties and responsibilities, such representatives shall again report to their immediate supervisor. d) The Employer agrees to pay for all time spent during their regular hours by such representatives hereunder. The Employer has the right to limit time spent by employees during working hours on union business if in the opinion of the employer such time is deemed excessive.

A committee member shall suffer no loss of earnings for all time spent during their her regular hours by such representatives hereunder. The Employer has the right to limit time spent by employees during scheduled working hours on union business if in attending grievance meetings with the opinion of the employer such time is deemed excessiveHospital up to but not including arbitration.
