Common use of Union Representatives and Grievance Committee Clause in Contracts

Union Representatives and Grievance Committee. (a) The Employer agrees to recognize four (4) stewards to be elected or appointed from Employees in the bargaining unit for the purpose of dealing with Union business as provided in this Collective Agreement. Where possible, these stewards shall be a mixture of Full-Time and Part-Time Employees, across the different departments and shifts. (b) The Union recognizes and agrees that the Stewards have their regular duties to perform in connection with their employment and that only such time as is necessary will be taken by the Stewards during working hours, in order to assist an Employee in presenting his grievance to the designated representatives of the Employer in accordance with the Grievance Procedure, provided program needs are not sacrificed. In accordance with this understanding, the Employer agrees to compensate the Xxxxxxx at his regular straight time hourly rate for time lost from his regular working hours when servicing grievances hereunder provided the Xxxxxxx shall first obtain permission from his immediate Department Director before absenting himself from his duties. Such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld. Prior to returning to work the Xxxxxxx must report to his Department Director or designate. (c) If, in the performance of their duties, an Employee representative or member of the Grievance Committee is required to enter a unit in which she is not ordinarily employed she shall, immediately upon entering such unit, report her presence to the supervisor or person in charge, as the case may be. When resuming their regular duties and responsibilities, such representatives shall again report to their immediate supervisor.
