WP2 Standardization and interoperability Sample Clauses

WP2 Standardization and interoperability. (Months 25-42) ❑ Objectives of WP2 for the third period: Basic concepts of standardization and interoperability developed within other fields of science and technology are investigated and evaluated within WP2. Within the first two years of ESONET XxX selected topics have been addressed to come up with a stepwise approach for implementing standardization concepts. As part of the WP deliverables reports on that concepts are now available that describe a minimum set of requirements within the selected fields. It has been conceived that these reports can only be understood as living documents as they give recommendations for the planned demo missions and will certainly result in some feedback from the users. The revision of these documents will be a continuing task for the following 18 months. Quality management principles will form the base of managing the documents and related revisions. An active involvement in international standardization initiatives have been on the priority list of WP2 right from the beginning. As a fortunate coincidence the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC, one of the most prominent standardization bodies in this field) is presently organising interoperability experiments where ESONET has been invited to contribute to the planning and implementation. A number of demonstration are planned like for instance on the OceanObs conference in Venice in Sept09. Related to that is the integration of ESONET into GEOSS activities. Teaming up with the WP on data management GEOSS principles will be introduced into the data acquisition chain starting from the sensor interface. This is of particular importance for the metadata description of the collected information. Active involvement in GEOSS working groups and the organisation of according workshop will be continuing for the next 18 months. Although this WP will not be able to cover all aspects of standardisation and interoperability it has been conceived that besides instrument and data processing related issues operational aspects of ocean observatories have to be addressed as well. Due to the fact that within Europe a number of work-class ROVs are in operation or are under procurement a framework of best practices for deploying, maintaining and servicing ocean observatories are of high importance. In particular aspects of training personnel using latest simulation tools will be an important activity for the next 18 months. ❑ Programme of activities by task Task 2a – Sensors and Scientific packa...
