Civil Leave definition

Civil Leave. Residents receive paid civil leave for jury duty, to serve as trial witnesses, or to exercise other subpoenaed civil duties such as testifying at depositions. Residents are not entitled to civil leave for civil legal actions that they initiate or when named as a defendant in a private legal action that is unrelated to their residency appointment. Residents who must perform jury duty or other subpoenaed civil obligations receive their regular SJMC pay while serving, and may retain any compensation received for their jury duty participation.

Examples of Civil Leave in a sentence

  • An employee regularly scheduled to work the evening or midnight shift may receive Civil Leave, as described above, for their regularly scheduled shift when their court-ordered service occurs immediately before or after their scheduled shift.

  • When requesting Civil Leave employees may be required to provide confirmation of their attendance by the Courts.

  • An employee shall be granted Civil Leave with pay when performing jury duty, when subpoenaed to appear before any public body or commission on a job-related matter when performing emergency civilian duty in connection with national defense, or when serving as a volunteer firefighter in the employee’s response area.

  • Time worked shall include Annual Leave, Holiday, Personal Leave Day/Personal Holiday, Civil Leave, and Sick Leave.

  • Consistent with the provisions of Article 4 of this Agreement, the Civil Leave provisions of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations shall apply to Bargaining Unit members except as otherwise provided in this Article.

  • Civil Leave may also be granted if an employee needs time away from work to vote and it is impractical to vote before or after their scheduled work shift.

  • Jury Duty and Civil Leave is considered leave with pay and does not affect the professor’s leave balance.
