Local Housing Need definition

Local Housing Need means: (i) Households who are in need of Independent Living Housing as their sole or principal home as determined by the Registered Provider/Housing Provider; and (ii) who is in need of Independent Living Housing by reason of age, illness, disability or any other circumstances and are in need of care and attention which is not otherwise suitably available to them in their current accommodation and whose care and support needs have been assessed by a representative from either the County Council’s Adult Social Care Services or a Health Service commissioned by the area Clinical Commissioning Group (or their successor) and whose resultant care and support plans indicate that their needs for care can be appropriately met by the provision of personal care and support in Independent Living Housing;
Local Housing Need means the need for affordable homes within the Housing Sub Market Area determined by the Housing Register and local priorities
Local Housing Need means (i) Households who are in need of residential accommodation suitable for their needs as their sole or principal home otherwise unableto obtain such suitable accommodation within the administrative areas of the Borough Council and the District Council (as applicable) by reason of lack of financial resources and whom it is reasonable to live in the locality or persons for the time being registered on the Borough Council and/or District Council’s (as applicable) maintained housing register and/or other housing register maintained for the purpose of identifying Local Housing Need in accordance with the policy of the Borough Council or the District Council (as applicable) and (ii) in the event that there shall be no such person ready willing and able to occupy an Affordable Housing Unit at the material time then a Household who is assessed by a RPSH or the Borough Council or the District Council (as applicable) to be in genuine and urgent housing need.

Local Housing Need normally exists when a person can demonstrate to the Council a need to be housed Locally in accordance with the following criteria:- 1.8.1 lacks his/her own housing or lives in housing which is agreed by the Council in its absolute discretion to be inadequate or unsuitable to meet his/her existing or future requirements whether because of its tenure size type design amenity location condition security or costs; or 1.8.2 is unlikely to be able to meet his/her housing needs in the housing market of the Area without some assistance; and 1.8.3 (i) he/she must constitute part of a separately identifiable household; and
Local Housing Need. To adequately provide housing for a variety of household types, including families and lower income households, and ensure the wise use of land resources, the City may require an applicant for development of land designated for higher density development (15 units per acre or more) to demonstrate how their project addresses local housing needs.
