Substantial use of College resources definition

Substantial use of College resources means that the College has provided support with resources of a degree or nature not routinely made available to all faculty and includes special support, either in the form of funding, or the use of facilities or staff. For example, the provision of a lab space, studio, extensive equipment dedicated to the use of a faculty member or extended IT support from a staff member involves the substantial use of College resources. However, ordinary use of desktop computers, College libraries and limited secretarial or administrative resources, including routine support from the College’s IT department, and provision of offices, do not constitute substantial use of College resources. In addition, the College’s funding of sabbatical leaves and funding provided through the Faculty Resource Committee are not considered substantial use of College resources.

Substantial use of College resources means use of College resources beyond the normal professional, technology, and technical support generally provided by the College and extended to an individual or individuals for development of a product, project or program. The use of College resources must be important and instrumental to the creation of the intellectual property. The following do not constitute substantial use of the College resources: (1) incidental use of College resources or (2) extensive use of College resources commonly available to College employees. A substantial use of the College’s resources may be implicated in situations where the creator spends such time and energy in the creation of a work that results in a great reduction of the creator’s teaching activity.
Substantial use of College resources means the use of College Resources, whether during or after customary College business hours, other than the use by Faculty or Students (as applicable) of College Resources routinely made available to such Faculty or Students in the course of teaching, the development of traditional works of scholarship, or experiential learning in a particular academic program. Normal and ordinary use of College-provided office space, equipment and other resources when used to produce traditional works of scholarship shall not constitute “Substantial Use.”
Substantial use of College resources means use of College Resources that exceeds the limits of Incidental Use of College Resources. The use of facilities generally available to the public, such as libraries, shall not constitute Substantial Use of College Resources.
