Underinsured Patient definition

Underinsured Patient means a patient who has some form of health insurance coverage but has a significant self- pay responsibility which they cannot afford to pay.

Underinsured Patient means a patient who, despite having insurance coverage, finds the obligation to pay insurance, copayments, coinsurance and deductibles is such a financial burden that he or she delays or does not receive medically necessary health care services due to the health care costs.

Underinsured Patient means a patient with insurance coverage who has charges for services not covered by their health care coverage.

• Underinsured Patient: An individual, with private or public insurance coverage, that (i) does not provide coverage for medically necessary or emergency services, (ii) has exceeded the maximum liability under his/her insurance coverage, or (iii) has a copay or deductible assessed under the patient's insurance contract for whom it would be a financial hardship to fully pay the expected out-of-pocket expenses for medical services provided by MHS.

More Definitions of Underinsured Patient

Underinsured Patient means a patient who has private or public insurance, but who incurs high medical costs in relation to the patient’s family income. An underinsured patient’s family income does not exceed 350% of the FPL, and the patient has incurred annual out-of-pocket medical costs that exceed 10% of the patient’s family income in the prior 12 months. In order to qualify for financial assistance as an underinsured patient, Lifespan requires each patient or family to complete a confidential FAP Application and to provide documentation of all out-of- pocket medical costs incurred over the prior 12 months.

Underinsured Patient means a patient of a CRMC Hospital Facility who has some level of insurance or third party assistance who nevertheless remains obligated to pay out-of-pocket expenses for the provision of eligible services that exceed such individual's financial abilities and is deemed medically indigent or meets the income and asset requirements as listed on Schedule A, as made part of this document.
