ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES. Beginning in September 2008, a forty (40) minute AIS tutorial will be offered at Penfield Senior High School during the school day. Teachers may submit their letters of interest to provide this AIS tutorial which would have an average of three (3) but no more than four (4) students. It is the expectation of the District that quarterly reports and letters would be sent to the parents informing them of their child’s progress. Teachers would receive a $4,000 stipend for the year. High School unit members assigned to DIC or Academic Support Center may have up to four (4) AIS students per period assigned to the DIC or Academic Support Center. Unit members will not be required to teach or evaluate (grade) these students, but they will offer remedial assistance, or student advisement and will report attendance. Unit members will provide a report card comment regarding the student’s work.
ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES. Teachers may volunteer to perform academic intervention services both before and after school. Teachers will be paid per Appendix D. The rate of pay shall include preparation for the academic intervention services provided to the students.
ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES. 25.1 The District and the Association recognize the importance of Academic Intervention Services (AIS) in the educational program of the Districts’ students. Regular classroom teachers will strive to maintain contact with the unit member(s) providing AIS instruction to their students. In order to provide the quality programs that the students need, it is agreed that AIS shall be provided by District teachers certified in the appropriate subject area.
25.2 Teaching Assistants may provide AIS when under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.
25.3 The District should make every effort to seek volunteer unit members to provide AIS during the school day.
25.4 Any teacher providing AIS during the regular day as a separate assignment shall have that assignment counted as a regular teaching assignment.
25.5 An AIS assignment shall be considered a separate preparation for teachers.
25.6 The District and Association recognize the importance of maintaining a low student/teacher ratio in AIS. The District will strive to maintain student loads of 50 students for a full-time elementary (K-4) assignment, 60 students for a full time Middle School (5-8) assignment and 16 students per block at the high school (9-12) with the opportunity of splitting the block in half if the schedule permits.
ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES. After school Academic Intervention Service (AIS) positions will be posted in specific buildings where after school intervention services are scheduled to take place. Tenured area seniority will be a significant consideration in making AIS appointments, but shall not have any more weight than any other factor.
