Academically Low Achieving Students. Community Roots shall identify academically low achieving students and shall provide its educational program to these students in a manner that best serves their needs. Students who are not receiving a passing grade in at least one subject are entitled to support. This support can be of different magnitude, and a distinction is made between supplemental support (or “need-supported” teaching”) and special education support. Supplemental support is less extensive and possible to implement within the frames of regular instruction. CRS will follow District guidelines before referring for formal support. The student identified will be discussed in a “CARE” team setting where concerns are generated, and support and intervention strategies are discussed and implemented. No formal decision has to be made to implement this category of support, but the support is supposed to be documented in the student’s “pre referral for special education plan”, the support needs to be documented on the District referral plan if the student continues to struggle.
