APPRENTICESHIP. 12.02.1 The program will follow the requirements of the Apprenticeship and Trades Apprenticeship Act and its Regulations. 12.02.2 A steering committee comprised of equal representation from the Union and Management will be established to monitor, evaluate and manage the Apprenticeship Program. 12.02.3 The Union and the Employer will work in partnership to ensure appropriate procedures are followed and mentors are working cooperatively to xxxxxx success of the apprenticeship. 12.02.4 When an apprenticeship vacancy is created by the Employer, the procedures set out in the following clauses shall apply. 12.02.5 Notice of an apprenticeship vacancy shall be posted in accordance with the procedures outlined in Article 10.01 of the Collective Agreement. 12.02.6 Candidates outside the Bargaining Unit will also be sought and considered provided the Board set up in Article 12.02.7 does not consider any internal employees to be suitable candidates. 12.02.7 Candidates will be interviewed and selected by the Board, with equal representation from the Union and the Physical Plant Services, and a representative of the Human Resources Department. 12.02.8 The successful candidate shall be hired under the following terms and conditions of employment: a) The candidate is approved into the apprenticeship program by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). b) The incumbent will successfully complete the apprenticeship program and serve a minimum of five years in the designated trades position following the apprenticeship. Should the incumbent not complete the service requirements, he/she shall repay 1/3 of the costs associated with the apprenticeship paid by the Employer (excluding wages). c) If the incumbent fails any examination, or is unable to proceed with the program due to ineligibility, or the MTCU suspends or revokes the training agreement, the apprenticeship appointment will be terminated and the incumbent will be provided with notice and severance (if applicable) in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000, SO 2000, c 41, as amended from time to time (hereinafter the “Employment Standards Act”). 12.02.9 The incumbent will be paid according to the following schedules for satisfactory progress in each of his/her working periods as set down by the apprenticeship contract between Queen's University, the candidate and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Following schedules to apply: 4 year program - Term Contracts 1st period of contract - 55% of trade rate 2nd period - 65% 3rd period - 75% 4th period - 85% 5 year program - Term Contracts 1st period of contract - 55% of trade rate 2nd period - 60% 3rd period - 65% 4th period - 75% 5th period - 85% 12.02.10 The apprentice will start at the period and rate appropriate for the credits he/she has earned, if any. 12.02.11 During the periods of required school training, the incumbent will continue to earn the designated rate of pay. (a) All Apprentice applicants shall be examined at the Graphic Arts Training Institute of B.C. training facilities by the Educational Director and the Instructor in the branch of the Apprenticeship and Trades Apprenticeship Act and its Regulations.

The Union shall be notified in each instance.
(MTCUc) Pre-Press Apprentices shall receive adequate training as approved by the Trustees of the G.A.T.I. of B.C. in all job functions within their branch of the trade, including both the conventional and electronic areas. The functions to be covered in conventional Pre-Press must include stripping and assembly, camera work, platemaking and all forms of mechanical imposition. In the electronic Pre-Press area the Apprentice must become proficient in using all pieces of hardware and software including but not limited to: scanning and image manipulation, art creation, page layout, trapping, imposition, and output. Such training, whenever possible, shall be in periods of not less than one (1) continuous week at a time and should be timed where possible to coincide with related training courses being taken at the G.A.T.I. of B.C. in the various Pre-Press job functions. It is recognized that a Pre-Press Apprentice might not be able to be trained in a specific job function as outlined above because the Employer does not have the required equipment. In these cases the Apprentice will receive the training available at the G.A.T.I. of B.C. or if not available at G.A.T.I. of B.C. at another recognized local training institution. In these cases the Employer agrees to pay the full cost of tuition providing the Employee successfully completes the course(s).
b(d) The incumbent will successfully complete the apprenticeship program and serve All offset press Apprentices shall be drawn from Journeyman feeder operators (offset). If a minimum of five years suitable applicant is not available in the designated trades position following Plant in which the apprenticeshipApprentice is to be indentured, then one shall be chosen from among the Journeyman feeder operators available through the Union. An Employee's wages shall not be reduced when moved to an Apprenticeship in the Plant in which he is employed.
(e) All letterpress Apprentice pressmen shall be drawn from Journeymen feeder operators (L/t/p). An Employee's wages shall not be reduced when moved to an Apprenticeship in the Plant in which he is employed.
(f) All offset Apprentice feeder operators shall be drawn from press helpers. If a suitable applicant is not available in the Plant in which the Apprentice is to be indentured, then one shall be chosen from among the press helpers available through the Union. An Employee's wages shall not be reduced when moved to an Apprenticeship in the Plant in which he is employed.
(g) All members including press helpers and general production workers shall be given first consideration for Apprenticeship in all other branches of the trade.
(h) Any Employees engaged in shipping, receiving, warehousing or material handling may apply for an Apprenticeship vacancy in another area of the Union jurisdiction. Should such Employee be chosen to fill such a vacancy, they shall retain their current basic straight time day rate of pay until such time as the incumbent not complete the service requirements, he/she shall repay 1/3 of the costs associated with the apprenticeship paid by the Employer (excluding wages).
c) If the incumbent fails any examination, or is unable to proceed with the program due to ineligibility, or the MTCU suspends or revokes the training agreement, the apprenticeship appointment will be terminated and the incumbent will be provided with notice and severance (if applicable) in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000, SO 2000, c 41, as amended from time to time (hereinafter the “Employment Standards Act”).
12.02.9 The incumbent will be paid according to the following schedules for satisfactory progress in each of his/her working periods as set down by the apprenticeship contract between Queen's University, the candidate and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). 12.02.10 The apprentice will start at the period and rate appropriate for the credits he/she has earned, if any.
12.02.11 During the periods of required school training, the incumbent will continue to earn the designated Apprenticeship rate of pay, if lower, is equal to that which they earned as an Employee in the shipping, receiving, warehousing or material handling Departments, at which time the normal provisions of Apprenticeship wage progression shall become effective. The university will cover the cost All other provisions of tuition and books and the apprentice will cover all other costsApprenticeship – Article 15, shall apply.

APPRENTICESHIP. 12.02.1 27.2.1 The program Employer recognizes that the Canadian Union of Skilled Workers has an Apprenticeship Council established for the purpose of training apprentices in the electrical industry.
27.2.2 The employer agrees to participate in the operation of the Apprenticeship Council. This Council will follow the requirements be a Joint Apprenticeship Council for purposes of the Apprenticeship and Trades Tradesman’s Qualification Act (or any successor Act)
27.2.3 Employers will contribute ten (10) cents per hour worked towards funding the Joint Apprenticeship Act Committee. This will be over and its Regulationsabove the Total Wage Package.

27.2.5 All apprentices shall be posted governed by the Ontario Apprenticeship and Tradesman’s Qualification Act and Regulations. b) The incumbent will successfully complete 27.2.7 In the apprenticeship program and serve a minimum event that an Apprentice fails his examination for his C of five years in the designated trades position following the apprenticeship. Should the incumbent not complete the service requirementsQ, he/she shall repay 1/3 of the costs associated with the apprenticeship paid by the Employer (excluding wages).

APPRENTICESHIP. 12.02.1 The 30.1 Employees promoted or hired into the apprenticeship program will follow the requirements must be able to speak, read and write one of the Apprenticeship official languages of Canada. They must be able to successfully pass Company entrance examinations, including a mechanical aptitude test and Trades Apprenticeship Act and its Regulationsa suitable mathematical examination.
12.02.2 A steering committee comprised 30.2 Except as otherwise provided, regular apprenticeship towards a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Car Mechanic, or Electrician shall be four (4) years, made up of equal representation from eight (8) terms of 960 hours each or a total of 7, 680 hours. Provided that other entrance requirements are met, applicants who have successfully completed training courses in recognized schools or institutes, or regular Apprentices who on their own time successfully complete courses in outside related training programs during their apprenticeship may serve a reduced apprenticeship, if such training is equivalent to the Union and Management will be established to monitortraining received in the trade under the Company apprenticeship program. The proper officer of the Company in consultation with the President of Local 100 shall determine if such training is equivalent or comparable, evaluate and manage but in no case shall the Apprenticeship Programreduction in the length of apprenticeship exceed a total of one (1) year.
12.02.3 The Union 30.3 Apprentices given credit for technical training under the provision(s) of Rule 30.2 shall have their rates and the Employer will work in partnership to ensure appropriate procedures are followed and mentors are working cooperatively to xxxxxx success of the apprenticeship.
12.02.4 When an apprenticeship vacancy is created by the Employer, the procedures set out in the following clauses shall apply.
12.02.5 Notice of an apprenticeship vacancy shall be posted terms adjusted in accordance with the procedures outlined in Article 10.01 credit allowed for such outside training.
30.4 The opportunity shall be provided for the Apprentice to secure a complete knowledge of the Collective Agreementtrade as per the agreed upon apprenticeship training program. Such apprenticeship program shall not alter the jurisdictional understanding as per Rule 54.1.
12.02.6 Candidates outside 30.5 Apprentices must throughout the Bargaining Unit apprenticeship continue to display the desire and aptitude to learn the trade or they will also not be sought and considered provided retained in the Board set up in Article 12.02.7 does not consider any internal employees to service except as may be suitable candidatesotherwise mutually agreed.
12.02.7 Candidates 30.6 Seniority of Apprentices shall, except as otherwise provided herein, be confined to the home seniority terminal and shall be established as of their entry date into the classification of Apprentice following their last date of entry into the service of the Company. Seniority lists will be interviewed prepared for Apprentices.
30.7 On completion of apprenticeship, they shall be paid the basic rate of pay established for fully qualified mechanics, and selected by they shall receive a certificate stating that they have successfully completed their apprenticeship.
30.8 Apprentices shall, upon completion of their apprenticeship, be placed on the Boardpermanent seniority list of their respective trade at their home seniority terminal and shall be credited with seniority as of their entry date into the classification of Apprentice following their last date of entry into the service of the Company. At the time an apprentice’s name is placed on the respective Mechanics’ seniority list, with equal representation it shall be removed from the Union and the Physical Plant Services, and a representative seniority lists of the Human Resources Department.
12.02.8 The successful candidate shall be hired under the following terms and conditions of employment:
a) The candidate is approved into the apprenticeship program by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
b) The incumbent will successfully complete the apprenticeship program and serve a minimum of five years in the designated trades position following the apprenticeship.
