Compassionate Care Leave. (a) An employee will be approved for an unpaid leave of absence for up to 27 weeks to provide care or support to a family member who is gravely ill and who has a significant risk of death within 26 weeks, as prescribed by the Employment Standards Act. (b) Employees' service while on the above approved leave of absence for compassionate care will be deemed continuous with associated benefits provided, as prescribed by the Employment Standards Act.

(a) An Effective April 1, 2010, an employee will be approved for an unpaid granted a compassionate care leave of absence in accordance with the Employment Standards Act without pay for up to 27 eight weeks to care for a gravely ill family member. In order to be eligible for this leave, the employee must provide a medical certificate as proof that the ill family member needs care or support to a family member who and is gravely ill and who has a significant at risk of death dying within 26 weeks, as prescribed by the Employment Standards Act.
