Couples. Verification of Credentials of Independent Applicants 2.4 Withdrawals
Couples. Any two applicants who are registered for the same SMS Match may participate in that SMS Match as a couple. If two applicants who registered as a couple do not obtain a match as a couple, the SMS will not try to find a separate match for either of them individually.
Couples. “Couples” are:
1. Any two individuals participating in the Match who agree to pair their rank order lists for the purpose of matching to a ranked pair of programs;
2. Sponsored or independent applicants.
Couples. Any two applicants may participate in the Main Residency Match as a couple. If two applicants who registered as a couple do not obtain a match as a couple, the Main Residency Match will not try to find a separate match for either of them individually.
Couples. If you are coming for couple’s therapy, be advised that I do keep your records together. Should any given situation require that I submit records to a third party, both members of the couple will need to give permission for mutual information to be released. I will make every effort to discuss the material to be released with you prior to taking action on any request.
Couples. If you are engaged in marriage counseling with your spouse, please list those specific issues regarding your relationship with your spouse that are problematic for you and in which you are seeking change.

A U.S. medical school that is not the home school of a partner also enrolled in a U.S. medical school may receive and notify that partner of Match results for the purpose of Match Day ceremonies, provided the applicants and medical schools approve.

3.3.1 Change in Eligibility of Individual in a Couple
1. Notify both individuals of the status of the couple; and
2. Uncouple the individuals, remove duplicate programs and “no match” ranks from the rank order list of the eligible individual, and process the rank order list of the eligible individual.
3. If the eligible individual wishes to be withdrawn from the Match, they must notify NRMP in writing within 24 hours of being notified of the removal of the couple status.
