Common use of Extended Illness, Accident or Layoff Clause in Contracts

Extended Illness, Accident or Layoff. Subject to management approval, an employee who is absent because of illness or accident, or because he is laid off for lack of work, may elect (except in a plant or part thereof which is scheduled for an annual shutdown) to have the first portion of such absence designated as the period of any vacation to which he may then be entitled. The employee’s election to apply unused vacation to extend active service must be made within one week of the beginning of the applicable absence.
