Common use of Extended Leave of Absence Clause in Contracts

Extended Leave of Absence. 1. Upon written request of a bargaining unit member (Appendix C), the Board may grant a leave of absence without pay for a period of not more than two (2) consecutive school years for educational, professional, or other purposes. Application shall be no later than March 1. 2. Upon written request of a bargaining unit member, the Board shall grant such leave of not more than two (2) consecutive school years where illness or other disability is the reason for the request. 3. Upon subsequent request, such leave may be renewed by the Board. 4. Upon return to service of a bargaining unit member at the expiration of a leave of absence, he/she shall be placed in the category which he/she was in prior to such leave.
