Union Leave (a) Upon receiving a written request at least one (1) week in advance from the Union, the Company will grant leave of absence for not more than two (2) employees at any one time to attend Union conferences, conventions, or workshops, providing that the combined leaves of absence will not exceed forty (40) working days in any one (1) calendar year. Such leaves of absence will be without pay but with maintenance and accumulation of benefits (normal payroll deductions to apply).
Extension of Leave 16 If an extension of the leave is required, a request for the extension must 17 be submitted in writing at least five (5) days in advance of the leave 18 expiration or as soon as practical. Consideration of an extension will be 19 based on the same criteria as the original request. Failure to return to 20 work at the expiration of the leave may result in termination.
Local Union Leave Upon written request, leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees for Union business in accordance with the following provisions:
Variation of period of parental leave Unless agreed otherwise between the employer and employee, an employee may apply to their employer to change the period of parental leave on one occasion. Any such change to be notified at least four weeks prior to the commencement of the changed arrangements.
Extension of Probationary Period The probationary period shall not be extended except in the case of extended illness or injury or compelling personal situation during which time the employee was unable to work. In such cases, the probationary period may be extended for the length of time the ill or injured employee was unable to work.
Commencement of Parental Leave Subject to subsection 24.07, Parental Leave in Addition to Maternity Leave, parental leave must commence no later than the first anniversary date of the birth or adoption of the child, or of the date on which the child comes into the actual care and custody of the employee.
Additional Leave Any further leave granted beyond the normal thirty-seven (37) week period, or the forty-two (42) week period for special circumstances, will be unpaid leave without benefits.
Negotiation Leave The Employer shall allow two (2) employees time off without pay for the purpose of attending negotiations for the renewal of the Collective Agreement.
