Paid Bereavement Leave An employee shall be entitled to bereavement leave with pay as follows:
ARTICLE BEREAVEMENT LEAVE If a death occurs in the immediate family of an employee bereavement leave shall not start until the day following the death of that person. Employees shall be granted five (5) consecutive days leave without loss of pay and benefits in the case of the death of parent, spouse, common law spouse, brother, sister, grandchild, son or daughter. Employees shall be granted three (3) consecutive days leave without loss of pay and benefits in the case of the death of grandparent, mother in-law, father-in-law, brother-in- law, sister in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law, step parents, step siblings. Employees shall receive one (1) day off to attend the funeral of an aunt or uncle provided that they attend the funeral or other service. An additional two (2) days shall be granted if the death occurs outside of Nova Scotia and the employee attends the funeral. Employees shall only be paid bereavement for actual time lost and shall not be paid on their regular scheduled days off. Additional leave may be granted at the discretion of the department head. If a death occurs, as in during vacation bereavement leave shall be substituted and the vacation shall be rescheduled at a later date. Where an employee has been requested and has agreed to act as a pallbearer, time off work shall be granted without loss of pay to attend the funeral or other service. Where such a request involves more than one employee equal considerationshall be granted. ARTICLE DUTY The EMPLOYER shall grant a leave of absence Without loss of seniority and benefits to an employee who serves as a juror. The EMPLOYER shall grant a leave of absence without loss of seniority and benefits to an employee who is subpoenaed to serve as a witness in any matter arising out of his employment. EMPLOYER shall pay such employee his regular straight time pay for each day as long as the remuneration from the Court is returned to and provided the employee would otherwise have been scheduled to work for the EMPLOYER and does not work. The employee must give prior notice to the EMPLOYER and shall present proof of service.
Funeral/Bereavement Leave In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for the purpose of attending the funeral. The length of such absence shall be at the discretion of the Employer. The term "
Family Sick Leave An employee may use sick leave credits for family illness or injury only if the employee must provide direct care to an immediate family member. For purposes of family sick leave, “immediate family member” will mean the employee’s parent, spouse, or child, including step-child and xxxxxx child.
Management Leave The County will credit each full-time management employee who is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and not eligible for time-and-a-half overtime under this Agreement with forty (40) hours of management leave effective July 1, 2008 and every July 1st thereafter. Employees in seventy-five- (75) hour, eligible job classes, part-time employees in eligible job classes, and employees hired into eligible job classes after the effective date will be credited with a pro-rated amount of management leave. Employees, newly appointed between July 1 and October 31, shall be credited with 5 standard workdays (40 hours) as management leave for that fiscal year. Any employee appointed between November 1 and February 28 (29) shall be credited with 2.5 standard workdays (20 hours) as management leave for the balance of that fiscal year. Any employee appointed between March 1 and May 31 shall be credited with 1 standard workday (8 hours) as management leave for the balance of that fiscal year. Any employee appointed between June 1 and June 30 shall receive no management leave for that fiscal year. Management leave is credited to eligible employees as acknowledgement of the extra hours that management employees are required to work from time to time. Management leave is not a vested right nor compensation for services rendered and as such is not subject to payout upon separation from employment. Unused management leave will carry over from fiscal year to fiscal year as long as the incumbent is a regular-hire employee of the County.

Unpaid Sick Leave The City Manager shall, upon the advice and recommendation of the City physician, grant unpaid sick leave for up to one (1) year upon application of any employee whose paid sick leave is exhausted. Any extension of such leave shall be subject to the Civil Service Board rules.
Paid Sick Leave Employees shall earn and be granted paid sick leave according to the following provisions:
Deductions from Sick Leave A deduction shall be made from accumulated sick leave of all normal working days (exclusive of holidays) absent for sick leave.
