Common use of Health and Hardship Leave Clause in Contracts

Health and Hardship Leave. a. Any Bargaining unit member whose personal illness extends beyond the period covered by accumulated sick leave and who qualifies for long-term disability shall be placed on health and hardship leave for the period of time necessary for complete recovery, but not to exceed one (1) calendar year from the date of inception of the leave.

Health and hardship leaves shall be without pay. However, the employee shall continue to accrue seniority and experience credit toward salary increments for the remainder of the individual’s work year.
