Common use of Holiday Work Premium Clause in Contracts

Holiday Work Premium. Regular full-time and regular part-time employees who are required to work on a holiday shall be compensated in pay or compensatory time off at the rate of time and one half (1½) for all hours worked. Individual employees who work on both the legal holiday and the day of its observance will receive the holiday work premium on either day but not both. As with overtime, the choice of compensatory time off requires approval of the employee and the department. 13.4.1 Holiday time shall be counted as time worked only for the purposes of paying overtime for work outside of the regular schedule. Holiday hours paid for a holiday falling on the employee’s day off, shall be paid at the straight time rate. For example, a Tuesday through Friday 4-10 employee shall receive eight (8) hours pay (or compensatory time pursuant to Article 10.3) for a holiday which falls on Monday and shall thus be compensated for forty-eight (48) straight time hours for the week.
